I am trying to find a single backspring knife which has a large clip or pen blade opposite a small sheepsfoot/wharncliffe blade. Has anyone seen such a thing?

Well,A half whittler has one large clip, maybe a pen,on the opposite side, not sure of the single backspring
I have a Queen classic muskrat, with a single backspring,a clip, and a warny, opposite, but the warny is just as long as the clip blade

I have forgotten which Victorinox knife this is but it has a single backspring and a blade configuration pretty close to what you were looking for. About 3 5/8 inches closed.

Thanks for the info. There seem to be quite a few with a small pen blade, but none I've seen with sheepfoot.

This seems pretty close to what I'm looking for. I hadn't seen this SAK before. Now if I could find something similar in more traditional materials.

The SAK is a Pioneer Apprentice, and is 3-1/2" long closed. They call that secondary blade an "Electrician's blade with wire scraper." Not sure if it's a single spring or not.

You can always buy that and have it rehandled by one of several folks on these forums.

And that may be your best bet; I'm a fan of the Wharncliff and sheepsfoot styles too, and have looked for various knives with these blades over the past couple of years. I'm not aware of any manufactured knife that comes closer to what you're looking for than the SAK. Maybe a custom?

One last thing: You might try the WorldKnives site, and see if there's anything out of Sheffield that might be what you're looking for. Some of those makers use sheepsfeet a lot.

Thanks for the response. Maybe I'm being too picky and should just stick with the stockman. It's pretty close to perfect and there's plenty of choice.

Maybe, you should wiegh out,the things you like or need, like for example, the single backspring, keeps the knife thinner,so a small pen instead of a warny,is not that big a difference.
Also,I have a few whittlers, that are pretty thin, and the 2 small blades,a pen, clip,or coping, can be pretty handy. These knives are not much thicker,at all, compared to that single spring muskrat I mentioned earlier
A lot of times,on a production knife, the single backspring will be thicker,so the knife winds up to be just about as close in thickness,as some patterns with 2 springs

To be honest, the thickness doesn't bother me. I was thinking minimalist and wondered if anyone had seen such a knife :)

Joat,I bet,you could get Al Warren to make you a slipjoint like what you want,in S30V,with some pretty freakin' nice scales, for really not too much,a lot less that you think,I bet

I have my order in to Ken Erickson for a moose similar to this picture. I asked him to replace the spey blade with a wharncliff. I am guessing the blades will be on separate springs.

About as close as I can come to your description, is this single backspring Victorinox. As you can see, it has large spear blade, and rather than a small sheepsfoot, it has the more important longneck opener, etc. :D (My idea of minimalist.)

You're right, that is a very important tool to have with you at all times. :D

Ford's Got A Better Idea!

(Now I finally understand what they meant. :p)

Don't know if it has a single spring, but the Kershaw Doublecross has a clip and a wharncliff blade opposite each other.

This looks very close to what I'm after. Unfortunately it's a linerlock. it would have to be slipjoint for me.

FWIW, the Case Mini Copperhead with Wharncliff is about exactly opposite what you want (big wharny, smaller clip). I can't remember if it's single spring or twin; I have one of these at home. I believe it's single, as I really do like the slimness of this knife. One of my favorite patterns, just wish I could get a slightly "nicer" one.

Yes, I saw these and wondered if they made one the other way round, but it doesn't look like it. It's a useful looking pairing, but I'd rather have it reversed.
