Ok don't laugh too hard at my Photoshop drawing, but I used to have a knife that looked just like the picture... Anybody know where I could find one of these? Or even what they are called? I don't remember the brand, but it was a good sheeple friendly knife that held a great edge. It had about a 3.5" blade and 3.7" handle, it was a slipjoint, the handles seemed like a clear smokey plastic over steel liners... Thanks for the help! :D

Kind of like the A. G. Russell™ Fruit Testing Knife, but the handle is wrong and the price is out of my range.

just saw this one on the traditional folders area, does the blade look similar?

Most of the blade looks similar, besides the thumbnail "opener?" location...

But was also only a single blade, blade is similar but ends there.

Looks like an old fruit sampling pattern. Here's one from Schrade http://www.cutlerytogo.com/acprodsamkni.html

YES! That is almost exact besides for the handle color, size, and number of pins. I might just settle for that one. I used to love that knife, was good for school lunches, picnics, and stuff. I guess I just want one because I remember it from my childhood :)

That style of blade and handle, along with the single blade and location of the thumb nail indent looks like a "doctor knife", Case and some some other companies make them in all manner of handle materials. http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=CA5253

That blade is dead on, the size is right, the handle is wrong, but I'm getting closer. I think it's a "doctor knife". Thanks for the help guys, I'm going in the right direction, at least I know what to search for now.

Yeah that link I posted was more to show the similar blade design, the handles come in many styles.

Hmmm. I've never seen a doctor's knife without bolsters, but I bet there is such a thing, somewhere.

If it's a fruit sampling knife like the Schrade, you've just missed out. SMKW had the closeout Schade fruit knives for around $10. You can probably find one on eBay.

I also have a Zenith knife, made in Germany, with a similar handle shape, no bolsters, and it's neither a fruit knife or a doctor's knife. Wish I had a pic of it to post...

Good Luck in your search,
Bob

I really wish I could remember the brand. I don't think it was made in the US, possibly german but I can't be sure. It felt rather cheap, but it had quality steel, no blade play, this is gonna bother me  :D

Edit: Maybe this thread would do better in the Knife ID section?

The two biggest differences between a doctors and a produce knife are the length of the blade (a produce is usually over 4") and the flattened end of a doctors knife. What size was the blade on the knife that you remember?

I believe it was under 4", maybe just over 3" to 3.5".

I would go with something bigger/smaller if I could find the same handle/blade combination as in the picture I drew. The handle just didn't have the bolters and was straight besides the slightly rounded ends and as I said a clear smokey plastic material for scales with steel under that.

Already saw the Russel, close but not close enough and a bit too expensive.

OK, it wasn't easy, but I scanned the Zenith, uploaded it to a photo hosting site, and here it is:
ZenithKnife.jpg

The handle is black plastic with brass pins. The blade is heavily pittted, so the "Zenith Germany" stamp doesn't how up well. Closed, the knife is just short of 4".

It seems like the handle you're seeking, but the blade is all wrong.

I bet your knife was a Zenith, Bruckmann, or other German brand? Have no idea where you'd go about finding an identical replacement. Keep an eye at J Voyles knife auction website, The Cutting Edge, and Nothwest Knives and Collectibles.

I saw a lot of fruit knives on ebay, here are a few item #'s...6518611668, 6518632825, 6518465739, 6517513737.

Search "fruit knife" and a couple of other cool ones come up. I liked the black one...and the Italian brushed steel was nice, with the pocket clip and little fork. Check this one out if you're interested...it's a new twist on fruit knives: 6517637092.

That's the knife, just a different blade! The handles are right on, now that I see it I remember the brass pins, 3 of them instead of 1. For some reason Zenith sounds familiar, maybe because I had a Zenith TV LOL :D Oh god I want my knife back, I think I threw it away when going through my "junk knife" box a few years ago, since then I've been missing something, and that's probably it.

Thanks for the scan man, many many thanks! :)

So you're now looking for a Zenith/Bruckmann/German melon testing knife, 4" closed, with brown celluloid handles.

You're going to have a tough time, but at least now you know what you're looking for. :) Glad I could help. Since I went to all the trouble to dig out the knife and scan it, I've also posted two pics over at Bernard Levine's forum. You might find more info there after the topic gets a reply or two.

Best Wishes,
Bob
