True I just got my kobun, but just looking around out there for different fixed blades. Looking for a 4-5 inch blade, would like the material carbon. Blade type, anything but double edged. Would be used for work, general use. Easy and comfortable to wear, with a decent shelth. One that won't fall apart easy. The knife itself, a good grip, vert durable(can handle stress) Serrations(for the general use part) Don't care if its drop point, clip or "tanto" Has to be easy enough to replace if lost, or broken.

So........what are options? or should I just get the kobun in carbon?

If you're set on serrations, you can get the Spyderco Temperance with a fully serrated blade. VG-10 is an awesome steel by all accounts. Great blade shape and solid handle.

Spyderco also has the Moran (trailing and drop point), Perrin and Lum Tanto, but none are available with serrations. All come with solid sheaths and are of VG-10 except for the Lum Tanto which is AUS-8. Becker also has a good series of fixed blades, although none are serrated AFAIK.

oooooooo I like that Moran! nice shape, sounds like the right kind of material for me. How does it carry?

Well the Benchmade Nimravus 140HSSR meets all but one. Easy to replace. But with there new sheet and various cliping systems you should not loose it.

M2 Tool Steel, 4.5" blade, mod reverse Tanto, serration available.

You should also check out the CRKT CORKUM FIRST STRIKE nice piece of work in the same line of knives you like butt at a fraction of the cost. I du not personaly have one but after checking out the site due to your post I thing I will be getting one for those trips where I do not want to loose the 140HS.

Regarding the Spyderco Moran: Check out this knifecenter review for a positive review. Haven't read anything negative about it yet. One of the few production blades around with premium steel and a trailing point. Available also with a drop point, but tons of other folders have those.

(edited to add subject "Spyderco Moran")

The only passaroud that I've been involved with was for the Temperance. Very nice knife, great handle with a good feel and a dedicated user. The version I had was the plain edge, but Spydie's have awesome serrations. The tek-lok rig sold me on tek-lok, got one for both my SnG and AR.

Can't go wrong, especially for the price.
