Looking for more info on the Lux and bucklite max small

I've been looking around for a thin and light locking folder in the 2.5-2.75in size range, and I have been having a really hard time finding anything in that size range and style. I'm also on a budget, so I'm trying to stay less than $40 for the knife, which narrows down the possibilities even more.

A few of the blades I've been looking at as possibilities, are the Buck Bucklite Max small, and the Buck Lux. The problem is I have a hard time finding reviews or thoughts on these knives, which is why I am asking you guys. The Buck experts :).

I'm mostly wanting information and photos of the blade steel (420HC seems a bit ... soft, it compares to AUS4 right?), the thickness of the knives not including the pocket clip, and the orientation of the pocket clip on these knives.

So... Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the Buck forum!!
If you go the www.buckknives.com, they have a pretty slick product selector, and you can choose what type of knife you are looking for by blade length, price or type etc. They have 4 pages of knives with around that blade length in everyday knives.

I have a bucklite max ard really like it. I was considering the Lux, but its not yet readily available to me, and I prefer tip up carry. ;)
I don't think you would have any problems with Bucks 420HC, it is good stuff. I wouldn't really call it soft either ;)
IF however you are concerned about it, Buck makes the Lux in 3 models. You could opt for the avid model with sandvik steel, or got for the pro model with carbon fiber handle inlays, and a S30V blade! I myself would consider any, but prefer the looks of the pro. Good luck with your purchase, and post some pics when you buy it please! Let us know your thoughts!

Thank you for the response, It's really appreciated.

I actually found both the lux and the bucklite max small using their website. I should mention that I also am looking for a locking blade with a pocket clip, and one hand opening. This makes things a bit harder to find :(. I've looked at the nobleman, and the vantage small as well, but those are the only blades I could really find that I was interested in.

Could you measure the thickness of the bucklite max not including the pocket clip for me? Also, you say the bucklite max is tip up carry only? Do you know if the lux is the same way?

Also, I haven't been able to find any photos of these knives other than what is posted at places like knifecenter and amazon. Anyone have some pics of either of these blades?

Thanks again for the help.

Yes, the bucklite max is tip up only. Mine actually has the pocket clip riveted onto the handle. The lux is tip down only I believe. You could try to do an internet search for the pics of a specific model, or like I do go to online auctions. Theres usually a bunch of different pics there. I will measure the thickness of my bucklite soon.

Thanks for the help. I'll try to find more photos of the lux, since that is the one I'm more interested in right now.

And really, I appreciate the help :).

No problem! Thats what the forum is here for! ;)
I can't locate my ruler right now, the place is a mess..... Anyway,, my bucklite max is a tad thicker than my vantage it would seem. Sorry I can't be of more help!

That actually helps me out, because while I like the Bucklites design, I actually prefer the Vantage smalls design, and its good to know that if I wanted to get one of them, I should get the one I like better :).

Either way, it looks like the Lux is the one that I am more interested in now. I found a few different photos of the and am liking what I see with the deep pocket clip. I still haven't found any info on it in regards to thickness though.
