Looking for update on ship date for new ZDP-189 Calypso

The date I see being posted is 5/09/2005. I've already preorderd mine.

Check out this thread it has pictures of an old prototype, it is probably not what will hit stores, but at least an idea. I think somewhere in there is other scattered info that Sal dropped about the new developments.

How would one get hold of one these when they are available? Being in the UK makes it that little bit more difficult than for most of you.

Last word from Sal, I believe, was target dates of May for the ZDP Delicas and June for the ZDP Caly Jrs. Am just praying that the "burgundy" looks like that protoype in the thread Slvgx mentioned, rather than like that of the old forum Vesuvius.

Dave, I'm pretty certain that both Heinnie Haynes and Joe at ODS will be getting some of both the ZDP models. There are also a fair number of US based dealers who do international shipments.

I think that the old forum Vesuvius was "black cherry" FRN, not burgundy. I don't think we've actually seen burgundy yet.

Carlos, while I agree 100% that the color of the Forum Vesuvius looks a lot more like "black cherrry" than "burgundy", was just going by this thread over on the Factory forum, and particularly by this post by Sal from that thread.

We're working on a Burgundy Vesuvius with a bug inlay.
I got involved with Spyderco collecting and the forums relatively recently and, for some things tend to rely information from old posts. I do realize a danger with that is that sometimes it takes so long to find the first good match that I stop there and look no further, so there's a chance that "facts" will change over time and perhaps that was the case here.

Whatever that color was named, the most important thing is that it never be used again! :D

The burgundy prototype is just beautiful in person. The nicest FRN color I have ever seen. I hope that it is close to that.

Actually for the price of the steel I wish Spyderco would have Moki make up some micarta handled ones like the first Calypso Jr.'s.

Sal has often said that the micarta only appeals to knife knuts, and I doubt anybody but knife knuts are going to buy this high end Calypso Jr. so why not have a handle material and blade material that makes us really salivate?

Email Patsy at www.beckscutlery.com , tell her I sent ya, and you want to pre-order one. I don't know if she is getting any, but I do know she ships anywhere in the world.

JacDan, I haven't seen any real pictures of the Calypso posted yet. As anxious as everybody else and hope the burgandy is a nice color. I'm buying on blind Spyderco faith

So this is a Calypso Jr?

Sounds like the Jr. and not the full size version. Sal is good at listening to what people want, and if there is a large enough market he will generally turn that talk into an end product.

First, let me start with the information below is approximate.

C11PBLE - Navy Blue FRN Delica w/ZDP-189 - August/September
C52PBRG - Burgundy FRN Calypso Jr. w/ZDP-189 - July

Not to be redundant, but PLEASE remember these dates are approximate and are subject to change. We'll try our best to keep you informed if anything changes.

Thank you for your inquiry and your support of Spyderco!
