Low Rider for my MC

Hi Steve.

Looking at my Kershaw MC TiZDP today, I seem to recall an earlier thread about increasing the 'grippiness' of the Ti by doing some artistic 'wittling' with a dremel, and I remember a picture of one of your ouperators with some nice looking grooving. Could you do that on my MC? It also needs a low rider clip.

Sorry Fred but what Does MC stand for or where can I see one? Is this a new model or are you referring to the Mini Cyclone? I don't get anything from a google search on it for just MC and really can't tell you much until I see it or know what I'm looking at. If its a Mini Cyclone I believe I've done low riders for them in the past but they are among the higher $ clips as most Kershaw models are due to how much ti they waste and require to make a viable replacement. As for the grooving. Yeah, I figure thats not too much of an issue but again seeing it helps. I don't really remember a lot about that one other than its all ti. I believe I anodized one for someone recently all blue as I recall but even after handling it for a bit I don't really recall much about it. Sorry

Thanks

Yes MC=minicyclone. All Ti with a frame lock. If it's a go, I'll write up a work order form and send it in. I have seen enough of your work to know that I will like whatever pattern you 'wittle' :D

I'm sure its a go. The clip is big on that one with a wide foot print to boot so low riding it is not a problem. The carving thing should be a go also and add some texture and grip to it that it lacks right now.

In the mail. You should have it by mid week.
I finally managed to put a decent edge on it so I can start carrying it on a regular basis when you are done with it. ZDP189 sure is tough to work on.

I'll let you know when it arrives. ZDP is usually 64-65 Rockwell so yeah it can be challenging to get where you want it but for the most part once you get it there hopefully you won't have to mess with putting it back for a while.

Got your folder in the mail today Fred. Just FYI. I'll try to get it done by next week for you. Thanks

Thanks Steve.
And I appreciate your compliment on the edge. Knives and sharpening are pretty new to me and I'm still learning how to do it. That one did come out right :D

I got the clip made today and ended up grinding the thumb stud down to drill a hole through the original and install one that comes out for sharpening. I used my press trying to get that original out and could not budge that one but did see where the sharpening really dinged it up. I had to do the same thing on my Storm II to rid it of the clip. I'm sure looking at how big around in diameter that thing is that no such stud exists to work in it so its going to have to be this way to allow you to sharpen it all the way back without beating up the thumb stud everytime you do so. I have not grooved the sides yet but will get to that before long. Just FYI to keep you posted. I had another doc appt. today at 1:20 that threw most of my day out of whack. So its amazing I got anything done in the shop at all but I called it quits after that. Thanks Fred

Thanks for the update. I read somewhere that those thumbstuds were just a press fit, but I couldn't loosen them either. At least you didn't have to drill the ZDP189. I do need a thumbstud since I have removed the AO spring.

I hope that all is well with your health and that you have adjusted to your medications. You had quite a bad time of it earlier this year, and you don't want to get yourself worn out.
