Are these watches actually durable and reliable? I have the oppurtunity to buy one from a friend for half what they retail, but I'm not real big on the navy seal logos all over the watch. If I were a Navy Seal, I'd wear the logo with pride, but I'm not and never will be a Seal unless they drastically lower their standards and offer a correspondance course, :D!

The tritium is a nice feature though, but I can get a Marathon basic field watch for less money than a Luminox.

If it's a good watch, I'll probably go for it!

If you do a search you will find TONS of information both ways. Having not owned one but just from what I read I guess the tritium is out of this world but there have been a few quality control issues. See yah.

I just traded and got one from another member here (without logo's)and it has become my favorite watch. I like it much more than any of my seiko's or casio dive watches. It went rafting down 25 miles of the Colorado River a couple weeks ago with me and didn't spin on my wrist like the other watches I wear. If you can get it at about half price jump, jump, jump on it. The latest thread on this watch includes a link to a place that I think will take off the faceplace and put a much more discreet faceplate on, with no cheesey references to the Seals, etc. I know they sell their own watches, I think they'll put faceplates on your watch, too.

If you can't find it, do a search on my name, in this forum, searching back no more than 2 or 3 months. Find the latest thread on this watch that I've posted in, and you'll see someone else posted the web address of the place I'm talking about.

BTW, from what I've seen, reviews have been decidedly mixed on how tough this watch really is.

Joe, if you don't mind, could you point me in the direction of these reviews? I've been jonesin' on a titanium Luminox lately, and would rather not spend the money on a folly.

Thanks.

The gentleman who replaces the "Navy Seals" dial on Luminox watches with a plain military style dial is Bill Yao and his website is here.

Don,

I know how you feel, I'll probably get one at some point as well, teh styling is too cool. I'll get one of the ones from the link above.

Anyway, I'm sorry but I can't point you to any reviews. Since I've admired this watch for years, I've read every review I've found on bladeforums/knifeforums/tacticalforums/etc. In my mind, there've been a moderate amount of complaints. No scientific survey, and I could be dreaming, but I know I've seen occasional reports of failures, more than I'd like to see.
