M.O.D. "Lady Hawk?"

Howdy?,

Well, I just came across the Masters of Defense ad, in the October 1999 issue of BLADE (pg. 9), depicting the "Lady Hawk" knife.

I, truth be told, seem to have taken an intense interest in hawkbill type blades of late (have aplenty of Spydercos to that effect), hence I had hoped to learn more about this company, its product line, and this knife in particular.

I live in California, alas, the automatic version is hardly permissable, yet does the satin finish version also exist sans "automatic" feature?

The, what appears to be the matte black, Graciela G-Bogg "Lady Hwak" (non-auto?) also appears to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, yet is there a plain edge version?

I have already checked the M.O.D. web site, yet it offered few answers to the aforementioned questions.

All of the MOD knives are available in auto and manual. All are available in a variety of finishes. I have two of them. They are not the greatest quality and a lot of dealers have discontinued them. Most dealers can order them if they are not in stock.

Don G.,

Well, thank you ever so much for the clarification regarding M.O.D. auto/manual knives.

I just wish the actual company's web site would have said as much (unless it does and I managed to overlook said fact).

Call them up and ask them to send you their brochure. It is one of the slickest brouchures I have ever seen. Too bad their knives aren't as good ...

Don G.,

Hello again!

Well, thank you for the suggestion to call M.O.D. (as that may well indeed be what I'll do).

Their ad, in BLADE, was slick also!

It is, however, unfortunate that the only discount knife wholeseller I've come across that carries M.O.D., knifecenter.com, offers them at a somewhat step markup (higher then M.O.D.'s MSRP anyway).

My wife carries a Lady Hawk. I bought it for her some months back from PVKAT through Bladeauction. I paid a whopping $75.00 for it.

Fit and finish, overall construction and quality are right up there with Microtech. I don't know what problems anyone else is having.

It's a little small for any use I might have in a knife, but the missus thinks it's the cat's whiskers. She loves it. That's good enough for me.

the4th,

Well, for starters, thank you for your nicely worded response & the faith you have in the M.O.D. "Lady Hawk."

I was, truth be told, at first not aware that said model knife was primarily for women (based soley upon looking upon M.O.D.'s ad in Blade), but I can now more readily see why.

Well, either way, your misses is fortunate enough to have a hubby (such as yourself) who gives her nice things!

Take care & stay sharp,
