As I am looking for a concealable fixed blade for selfdefence (not much utility works). I found this two knives look great for my need. And they are almost about the same price level. Which one is more concealable? And which one you will prefer? Any comments will be appreciated.

Support your state economy, get the MOD :)

Seriously, both are great knives, but I'm partial to the Razorback's design.

I don't own either, but did a bit of research a while ago when I was in the market. The Razorback is strictly a defense knife. Not suitable for much else (not even a full tang construction).

The Busse is one tough looking knife and is (I think) 1/4" thick steel. I would go with the Busse.

I had a Busse Assault Shaker, and I still regret getting rid of it.

The AS is one tough knife indeed, and even though it is 1/4" stock, it takes and holds a great edge.

I would surely go with the AS.

Of the two, the MOD, definitely. It actually has a handle (not to mention one that you can get all your fingers on), and a longer blade (beware your local laws, IIRC is 3.8").
The AS is a heavy duty 3-finger neck knife.
The Razorback is designed for self defense.
There are few similarities between these knives, or their intended purposes.

If versatility is ANY kind of issue, I'd take the Busse. If self defense is first and foremost I'd go with the Razorback.

Razorback is extremely well designed and has the longer blade, with a tanto shape and a thick spine that would grant you more access to the goodies ie: heart, and lungs in a self defense scenario. And there is ALOT to be said for a knife intended for use in the most dire of circumstances having a real deal, full length usable handle.

If you were planning to test both knives by having them run over by tanks or drop tested from a 747 the Busse would probably win, but I can hardly imagine how any rational, or sane person would destroy either knife.

I almost refuse to believe that you guys are recommending a 5.5" OAL knife with a 2.5" blade, and no handle scales for self defense.
You know, when people ask for advice on a blade their life might depend on, it wouldn't hurt to look past the brand name, and actually take a look at the knives.

I'll be the first to say I am no expert on self defense, but I fail to see the point of most of your post.

A knife needs scales to be good for self defense?
I don't know if you have had an AS in hand, but it's actually very secure, and is certainly not prone to slipping, with dry or wet hands.

The AS is very concealable, secure, tough, takes a great edge, and will easily disable or kill someone if you know what you are doing.

Although I could be wrong, the AS was designed for one of our Government Agencies, although for what specific purpose I do not know. So what was the AS designed for?

I just don't see what's wrong with an AS for self defense, but like I said, I am no expert and would never claim to be.

Yeah, I edited that out. That first part was in poor taste.
I do think that an adequate handle for a secure grip, and blade length play an important role in a defensive knife.
I'm no expert either...just opinionated. Sometimes too much so:o
Sorry about that.

IIRC, the AS was designed as a compact tool for opening or puncturing containers (for drug enforcement officers). It seems well suited for use as a mini-prybar. I don't think anybody has to worry about breaking one!

OwenM,

I didn't think it was in poor taste, and you certainly have no need to apologize for anything there. Everyone has an opinion and hopefully everyone realizes we can all benefit from hearing from several sources.

Now, I did not mean to imply that you were coming off like an expert, when I firmly stated that I was not, but it does look like that's what I did..

Sure, scales are good, it's just that the AS is pretty secure without them, that's all, and it's hard to get more concealable than the AS.

But of course, when I read the post, I was thinking versatility really, even though the originator positively stated it would only be for self defense..I then recommend the more versatile of the two anyway...

Well anyway, I just wish I still had my AS, now that it's gone...

Thanks for your guys valuable suggestions.
I have a new question:

Can the AS's handel be wrapped up with stripes like some other kinves do?
