I have been holding a M3 Camillus Knife for my uncle for a year now , and i am curious of its history and what it was used as.
It looks pretty worn out and old.

Camillus Cutlery Co. began manufacturing the M3 Trench Knife in 1943. These knives were used by ground forces of the Army/Air Force,
tank units and specialized commando units.
Only the M3's made during 1943 had the year of manufacture stamped on the blade. A total of 402,909 M3's were made by Camillus during WWII.
I have the original WWII records for this knife. If you would like copies, without charge, just email me a postal mailing address.

what if it does not have a date stamped on the blade?
it has US M3 CAMILLUS stamped on the blade
and US M8AI WP , stamped on the holder

Camillus M3 trench knives that do not have a
year stamped on the blade were made in 1944 or later. The stamping on the scabbard was
done by the manufacturer. Camillus did not
manufacture the scabbards.
