Mad Dog Fighting Sticks

Glass composite, huh? I wonder if they're a tougher, thicker type of the material used in sticks like Newt's WA sticks? (I have a few of these and I recommend them highly). The ones on the website look kinda greenish, like a G-10 plastic, but I haven't seen glass composite in that color...cool. I'd like that color, not the black (I have a MIGStix in black, another excellent stick, he puts a grip on one end, etched right into the material).
Kelvin, have you bought any of Eric Blair's stuff? I have his staffs, F-Stix, and also a couple shorties that he made up special for me, out of a molybdenum poly that looks really cool, kinda stripey-marble dark colored...ridges carved into the ends for a good grip.... You probably already know about Jeff the Stickman. His solid shadows are excellent and really look innocent; I have a solid clear Lexan one, in 24"- you hardly even notice it, especially if there's not a lot of light shining on it. I also got one of his shakuhachi flutes in about the same length, again in Lexan; works good since I play a real shakuhachi and can toot out a couple Japanese songs on the Lexan one as well.
Let us know if you do order any of those...more toys!

Yeah, I have 2 F-Stix. I'm looking at them right now, and guess what... The 24" looks like it's made of the same green material as those Mad Dog sticks. The diameter seems smaller at 3/4"(the Mad Dog sticks look like at least 1" diameter). I know I payed a LOT less for the F-stix than the prices listed for the Mad Dog sticks. The 26" F-stix is made of the gray/black material. Kelt, do you know if Eric Blair has a Toxic Toys website up and running yet?

Yes, that gray-black material is what all my stuff is made of; it's kinda layered-looking. His walking staff is awesome, I've had a lot of positive comments from hikers on the trails.
I don't think he got the website up for his toxic toys- you usually have to go to his usualsuspect.net and then scroll down to "knifemakers" category and he has a site there (along with a cool site with Barry Jones and his bro). People have been posting requests and such right there- Eric's wife is helping out with the e-mails. I just e-mailed him there about some palm-sticks I'd like to pick up. I lost a really beautiful G-10 one last summer- it was done by Don Rearic- and I want to replace it with something nice...
Those F-Stix are nice; I'd like maybe 2 inches taken off the end but I won't mess around with them. They were a gift when something got screwed up with an order- Eric sent me those free, only because he was running behind on an order that I needed, nothing major, and being the gentleman that he is, who always goes above and beyond for ya, he sent me the pair of F-Stix (with the dragon blood-red paracord grips) for free! I was floored! Of course, I ordered more stuff from him after seeing the way he takes care of people...

I think the Mad Dog sticks are made from G-10 or G-11 (ie. an epoxy laminate), as it is meant to be the same stuff as his knife grips are from. Eric's stuff is meant to be Nylon 6/6 with extra moly (like an injection moulded plastic) - a very different material.

BTW - those of you that own F-Stix, do you get vibration in your hands when you hit hard stuff? I made some of my own sticks from 3/4 inch Acetal / Delrin and the shock back to my hands was uncomfortable (just hitting a tree for example).

I don't kinow for sure but the yellow/green ones do look like the G-10 Garolite rod in my garage.

I've tried about 6 different synthetics they all have some noticeable amount of vibration. I wound up putting a cordwrap on all of them.

Stay Safe,

I think asking if Mad Dog's sticks are "worth it" is like asking about the price of a Sebenza. The sticks kick butt, but it's still a stick, and how much is a stick worth to you, anyway?

If I remember, Mad Dog's sticks are made from a material related to G-10 but stronger (higher glass content, maybe, my memory fades), according to Mad Dog. I haven't seen anything else like it, and they are brutal compared to even the best polymer/nylon/etc sticks I've handled.

I owned a pair of 28" Mad Dog sticks. They are no longer made in this length. They are made of the same material as his knives. His quality is first rate on everything he makes. The material is compressed at 70,000 psi. It is very tough stuff. I have seen pictures of a block of this shot with a 45 acp. It just chipped a good mark on it and that was it. I felt these sticks were a little too thin and a little on the heavy side. These sticks will destroy anything out there. So it is not really fair to use them on your training partners sticks. They will break and shatter them. However I did keep a 12" stick! Try a pair out too see if you like them. If you don't like them, you can sell them easily.
