I have always loved the rmj talon and decided to make a version of my own. I bought a 1/4" thick piece of 440c and started cutting and grinding. Here is the finished product. I didn't take as much care with the finish because it will be a real work tool. I have already cut down 3 cedar trees in the back yard and find I use it a lot working in the yard. The handles are green canvas micarta and make it sort of heavy. I may grind them down thinner to save some weight. I also put 5 or 6 holes in the handle to get it balanced. I am trying to make a kydex sheath for it, but haven't come up with a good design yet.

Thats a nice looking, tactical hawk. I've been kicking around the idea to do the same thing, but tools are limited here in the barracks. Only so much filing you can do before you feel the need to do something else. Did you grind out the blank or use a torch to cut it?
Thanks, Kenneth

I used a hand grinder with a steel cut off blade. I used to use a hack saw to cut out blanks so this is much easier. I bought a piece of steel that was sort of square so I am working on one with the left over steel. I want it to look something like this (see link) but they always come out a little different for one reason or another. When you get yours done be sure and put a pic out here.
