Got this reply when asking about a Maine knife laws for carrying a fixed blade:
I am responding to your e-mail requesting information on legally carried knives. Title 25 M.R.S.A. Chapter 252 sub. 2001 states, "No person may display in a threatening manner, or wear under his clothes or conceal about his person, any firearm, sling shot, knuckles, bowie knife, dirk, stiletto or other dangerous or deadly weapons usually employed in the attack on or defense of a person unless excepted by a provision of law.
The provisions of that section concerning the carrying of concealed weapons do not apply to:
Hunting knives (knives used for the purposes of hunting, fishing or trapping as defined in Title 12, section 7001.) There is also in Title 17-A section 1055 that outlines Trafficking in Dangerous Knives,....which is what I think you referred to in your e-mail. That section also outlines the knives that are prohibited from being carried, possessed or concealed.
It would appear that a hunting knife, carried in a sheath, not concealed would not cause you any problem"
Looks good for me. Been wanting to carry a tough fixed blade for years.
