Being kind of tight on cash due to the holiday season I've been looking around the house for something to make a sheath of of for my Scrapyard S5. I came across a thick, wide leather belt that looks like it could work. I remember seeing a post about someone doing the same thing somewhere on the forums. I've never done any leather work so I was wondering if there is anything I should know before I go hack the belt apart and try to put something together.

In short: not really. Try it, you'll learn a lot! I betcha you will end up with a useful sheath.

Learning has a price, whether it is by yourself making mistakes, or paying for training.

Just my 2 cents.

Don't forget to put a welt in the sheath. If you have a drill press it's great to drill the holes for sewing. As the picture shows a fork works well to mark the spacing of the stitches. Have fun and post a pic of the finished sheath.

Can't wait to see the results. I've made sheaths from boots, gloves and even leftover saddle leather. Whatever old leather I could get my hands on.

Plus one on the welt warning! The one that is pictured is as good a guide as you'll find. That is an EXCELLENT example of just how good a belt recycle sheath can be, and look.

My brother made a sheath out of a seat belt. The material is very durable. Just go to your local junk yard and pick your color.
