I thought I would do another "making of" thread, this time with rooikat`s R.U.S.K. (Rooikat`s Urban Survival Knife.) This is my first recurve, I love it, there will certainly be more!

Here is the drawing Joe sent me.

Here the drawing is transferred to cardboard, then traced to the steel.

Here it is profiled out.

I keep seeing this one in my head  with a rounded point and bigger overall, as a chopper.

Very nice! Looks like it has a great 'sweet spot' for chopping.

You're reading my mind again!

You must enjoy short stories.:D

Sweet - i keep trying to come up with a design I have in my head but I can't get it right on paper.... ugh.

Nice work bringing that drawing to fruition.

Guys,
When I designed this, my thoughts were that it could be the basis of a series of 'survival' knives, this one being the smallest.
This one is going to be an EDC sort of blade. Perfect for hiking in any area, urban or woods.
Step the blade up an inch or two, you got yourself a nice camp knife.
The recurve will give it better chopping/slashing abilities than a knife of equal overall length with a straight edge.
In a longer blade, say 7-8", it would be capable of adding intensive excitement to any endeavor.

My original design, also on that page, had a rounder point, but I wanted the greater ability to penetrate of a clip point as well.
As you all know, a clip point makes everything better.

That looks fantastic. I'm not usually a fan of the recurve, but that is nice. Excellent work John, and great design Joe.

Wow that looks great!
Did I miss the specs?

Specs are: 9" oal, 5" blade, 3/16" thick. I emailed Joe about adding it to my line. I see a small version as a neck knife, and a big version as a chopper / camp knife.

Great idea. That is one smooth looking workhorse.

Do you use O-1 exclusively or do you have other options?

John,
Perfect. You got it exactly as I envisioned it.

To say that I am impressed is putting it too mildly. It looks like you got the design, and materials, perfectly.

I am seeing the neck knife with a cord wrapped handle (tan paracord, of course).

The 'as forged' finish would also be sweet with black canvas micarta.
