Here are two very nice mammoth handled folders, a Lanny's Clip by Texan Bill Ruple and a lockback by Keith R. Johnson, a Minnesotan, with engraving by Mississippi's own Joe Mason. Both knives are entirely sole authorship by these esteemed makers and the quality is evident in every detail.
1. Bill Ruple Bark Mammoth Lanny’s Clip. Dramatic, perfectly matched bark mammoth scales with lots of color, with awesome fit and finish as would be expected from a maker of this stature. I am the first owner of this Lanny's - I thought I might carry it some but never have. This Lanny's Clip is 7" overall, 4" closed, with a perfectly centered 3" blade of CPM154; bolsters, liners and lanyard tube are in 416SS. Never carried or sharpened - as original from the maker. Comes in a padded, zippered case. $1,275
2. K.R. Johnson Fancy Bark Mammoth Lockback. Mr. Johnson made this folder specifically so it could be engraved by Joe Mason, who did some real magic with the front and real bolsters. Mr. Mason's name is discreetly engraved near the front of the knife as shown in one of the pics. The different hues of black, tan and blue on the mammoth scales are as pretty as I've seen, with the smallest hint of texture in the ivory. I am the first owner of this gem - I've had it a couple years now. The lockback is 8-1/4" long when opened, 4-5/8" closed, and sports a wide, 3-5/8" blade of CPM154 steel, bolsters and liners of 416SS. There is some play when the blade is in the folded position but not when open; the blade locks up and releases perfectly. I love the “K.R. Johnson Bemidji” etch. $1,200
Neither of these knives has ever been carried, they are razor sharp and as original from the maker. I purchased them new and have carefully stored them. Each knife comes in a padded zipper pouch.
The prices marked are for PayPal G&S, including USPS priority shipping (with tracking) to USA. I will ship elsewhere but the risk and cost must be yours.
Bill Ruple folder: (you can see some oil on the blade in some of these photos)
KR Johnson lockback: (you can see oil on the blade and swirls of palm and thumb prints on the mammoth scales, my bad)
