I'm an auto damage appraiser for an insurance company and my job requires me to climb in and out of cars all day.

I was looking and an older POS audi with some serious cracked leather seats. I sat down to get the mileage/options etc and when I went to get up I felt a little more resistance than I was expecting.

The pocket clip got snagged on one of the cracks and when I stood up it bent the crap out of it! I've already sent an e-mail to KAI to see how I can get another one ASAP.

Tomorrow will be the first day she spends out of my pocket since I first got her. I'm thinking 0350 tomorrow.

I've had that happen a bit on some of my clips, just remove the clip and re-straighten it ,you should be able to get it back to normal

Maybe the knife gods were punishing you for carrying tip down? But in all seriousness that really sucks.

Tip down is the only way to back pocket carry a flipper knife, period.

I tried to bend it back but I think the metal it too fatigued, there is very little spring left in the clip.

Ok what the heck is it with tip up carry on this forum? I carry all my KAI, heck, all my clipped folders, tip down, unless it is some kind of half-a**ed design that doesn have tip-down placement of the clip. Generally it allows the knife to rest better along the curve of the jeans pocket, and it provides for a better transition to an opening/open grip with minimum manipulation of the knife. Sorry to jump off topic, but I'm confusedl

Personal preference. Tip up sets the knife up to be flipped open without any manipulation. I won't even buy a knife if it doesn't allow for tip up

Me too +1

Do you guys use the flipper/studs, or just sling your knives open? If I carry tip up, I can't reach either the flipper or studs without repositioning my hand higher toward the pivot, resulting in more manipulation for me from tip up than tip down. From tip down, my hand is positioned correctly to use either flipper or studs, only requiring a rotation of the handle down into my hand prior to opening.

The only knives I can somewhat open from tip up without a lot of manipulation is very small knives like the leek. Must be that my hands are much smaller than yours.

I use a lanyard and grab it with just my pinky so my whole hand is high on the knife when it leaves my pocket.

I don't suppose you have a picture. Of the knife set-up that is. I might be interested in trying this on one or two to get a feel for it. Is it just a short lanyard? Monkey-fist on the end? Sorry to have so many questions, I guess I could figure it out myself. But it would undoubtedly take a lot of iterations, and if you already have a style that works, it will get me a shortcut to get started.

I prefer tip down except on flippers. For flippers, I have to carry tip up to keep the flipper from catching and opening the knife.

i use a 13 loop hangman's knot. it doesn't require anything other than one piece of paracord, takes minutes to do (instructions), and is easily undone if you need the cord for an emergency in the future.
