Manix 2 with titanium scales

Any chance you've gotten to play with the Manix 2? I'm looking to replace both the G-10 scales, and the liners underneath with a set of titanium scales. I'd also like the clip tip down, but that could be discussed later if you're willing to take on this project.

I can take more if you'd like, I think the only trouble will be working around the CBBL.

The only area I see on it that scares me is the flared lip on the lanyard which can not only fight me getting it apart at times on ones done that way but can often be hard to ever get back in again. I don't think it will be anything I have not tackled many times before though. Just a different lock is all.

I'm about four months out for turn around plus or minus. If you get it to me in a week or so that will probably be the basic time frame you are looking at but if not that could stretch out even further. Once I get out to five months again I'll stop taking new jobs until I knock some out. Been doing a lot of smaller jobs lately trying to knock the pile down some but have more tomorrow and seems each day more come so its not likely to get sooner for you. Just FYI.

I really can't give you a definite cost until I know the thickness of the titanium needed I don't think. I'll have to look it over, probably measure the scale and liner on there now and try to find something that will work and allow me to use the existing hardware so it does not need changed. This way the only thing likely to be permanently dinged is that lanyard tube..

Pocket clip orientation is no worry. I can put it anywhere really so long as I know before its too late.

I would need my work order form filled out which can be found in the Read this if you need to mail me work sticky thread top the page here in my forum on page one. Find that, fill that out using your keyboard, print and mail with the folder. I won't do anything until we agree on the price. If you don't want to go for it thats cool. I understand completely.

If you get in touch at the email in the form I can give you a rough idea but thats about the best I can do until I see it. I've not even handled that particular folder yet so its a first.

Thanks for asking.

I'll print that form off and try to get it in the mail to you Monday, that soon enough? :)

If you don't damage the lanyard tube popping it out, just leave it out and chamfer the ti scale around the hole a bit. You could even add a small standoff there, being there isn't a clip.

I'll work on finding a good tip down clip position, the clip might have to be redone a bit to match up with the CBBL.

Thats fine my man. I have already looked it over pretty well. There is not a lot of room but its enough to fashion a clip to curve around that lock out of the way just enough to make it work I think so you have both the mode of carry you want and no blocking the lock button on the one side. Problem with doing that is of course its likely it will not mount very well tip up but if I can come up with something that will flip in the event I get it mailed to me again down the road one day if you trade it or sell it off then maybe I can build that into it in advance. We'll cover all that when I get ready to start it a few months from when it arrives probably.

Thanks

I don't mean to hijack or anything, but this intrigues me... how much would it cost to have this done with just average thickness titanium STR? Like, Sebenza thickness I'd guess. I don't need an exact amount, more just a ballpark, would help me.

Or for example, to put titanium on the FRN Stretch?

Thanks

I won't know that until I get one here to examine. I highly doubt Sebenza thickness sides will work because once it locks open it will likely be difficult to get hold of the buttons on either side if I used that thickness but for all I really know whats on there now is that thick. I have not seen it to know. The thickness of the set up on there now is what has to be duplicated in slabs as close as possible. Also, until I see one to examine the underside of the button to see what kind of machining and how much is needed to allow that to all work I'm not even sure I can pull this off yet.

When I know the world will though because others have written me asking about this one so when I know I'll post it here.

Just check back and I'm sure when I see it I'll know more of what you ask and what some other folks have asked me about.

Thanks for asking

Thanks STR.

About the FRN Stretch though, I'd guess you've done FRN Delicas and Enduras to titanium before? If so, do you think you could guess on the price of the Stretch (just average thickness of titanium)?

Also, on the Manix 2 I hadn't even thought about the thickness being restrained by the ball lock!

Thanks again
