Manix is not for lefties?

Ok this may seem like a silly question but I was under the impression that the Manix was designed to carry tip up or down, right or left handed. I'm a lefty so the first thing I did today when I got my new Manix was attempt to move the clip over to the left-handed tip down position but it appears that there are no threads.

There are three holes but the screws don't thread, as if they are smooth holes with no threading in them on that side. I tried to look down into the holes but I can't see well enough to know if there are threads or not and I don't want to put so much pressure that I strip the threads on the screws either.

Has anyone heard of a knife sneaking past QC without all the additional clip mounting holes being properly threaded? Or was I misinformed and this knife is not designed for tip down left-handed carry?

Thanks!
Brian

Clip should be able to attach at any one of the four corners. I set mine up for LH tip down the day it arrived.

Upon further inspection I find that the screws will not thread in to any of the four positions other than right-handed tip down, which is how it came from the factory.

When I had my turn with the Manix passaround, I noticed the same kind of problem. The holes were tapped for tip-up carry (which I prefer), but the holes in the liner and scale were misaligned so putting the clip there was impossible. I can't remember about the left side.

Contact the warranty/repair department. They should be able to take care of you.

I think mine has the same problem.I wanted to try tip up so I took the screws out and there doesnt appear to be threads. Also when I went to put them back on the rh tip down they would not hold. This was the first time the clip has been removed.

Same here, LH + TU & all three screws are in threaded holes.

I think the threads are in the liner, not the G10, and some of the G10 holes are not perfectly aligned with the corresponding liner hole, so when installing the clip you need to leave the screws loose at first, and move the clip slightly until you get all three screws engaged.

I had the problem in my Manix as well when going from rh tip down to rh tip up. Fortunately, I have a good selection of taps and got things put aright without any fuss. New threads, new screws, no problems.

You should send it in. It shouldn't be that way. We'll need to see it.

Thanks for the response Sal. I will give you guys a call and make arrangements to send it in.

My Chinook II's holes are not tapped either. I like the clip in the position it came, so it doesn't really affect me, but I still wondered about it

Manix is such a fine knife, hope you get it as you want it. Mine is just perfect.
Thanks sal!

I shipped it off to Spyderco today. Anyone have an idea on the average turn-around time on something like this? When do you think I could expect to see it come back to me?
