Anybody have a pic of these 2 beauties side by side?
Just trying to figure out if the Manix is too big for EDC.
Thanks all.
Lenny

I don't have pics, but I have both knives and carry them frequently. The Manix (and the Mini Manix) are VERY heavy knives. I'd estimate the Mini Manix as roughly 50% heavier than the Para.

Wow, the Mini Manix is that big?
Guess it's due to the back spring.
I'm not so much concerned about the weight as the overall size in the pocket.

Haven't handled the mini manix yet, but the normal manix is wayyyy too big for me to EDC. The para is my limit in EDC size...I went just a little too far with the d`allara drop point and I don't carry it much. The para, though long and far across when closed, is actually very thin and pretty light. It's a lot of knife for that space though.

I recommend the para.

I've handled both and probably a lot of other guys would agree that the Manix for what it is, a superbly tough and reliable knife, is a bit too big (re: thick scales and widish blade profile) to lug around daily, comfortably and discreetly which are my EDC needs. "M1 Abrams" came to mind the first moment I held it.

I'd also recommend the Para for you (haven't handled the Mini-Manix).

Mmm, I think the Mini Manix = "mini tank", but this is why I like it so much. ;) I carry it some months ago, and I think it's a great EDC knife - like the ParaMilitary, but even massive. Get both, and you'll be happy. ;)

I like how the manix has some heft to it...it just reminds me that its a serious knife. It does take up alot of space in my pocket but im used to it now. Still my favorite edc.

If you like knives with a lot of heft to them, that just "feel" tough, I recommend you play with the D`allara drop point. It's got so much steel between the scales you'll forget they're FRN.

But, it's just a little too big for me to EDC. Anyway, point being, grab a para and a d`allara...the d`allara is only 55ish at NGK.

Ditto that.

I think this goes with the saying that if you have to ask, it is probably too much (weight and size) for you.:D Really, the Manix is a big beefy and heavy knife.

I like my knives to be larger than some people. I would never carry a Delica or a Calypso Jr. as my only knife. Not that they won't do the job, it is just that I prefer a longer blade and handle. I carry the Para right now and I have not found a task that it didn't excell at. I can't imagine a situation that I will likely be in that the Para is not enough knife for the job. The Manix is too much knife for most of my uses. It is rare that I need a folding knife to be as thick, big and strong as the Manix. If I need a knife that tough, I probably should get my ax!

Seriously, the Para is bigger than it seems on paper. It preforms like a lager knife than it is. I can't imagine that you would want or need something bigger.

There is nothing mini about the 80mm Manix. (83mm Manix sorry.) I personally feel the Para Military is perhaps the best knife that Spyderco makes of the Golden CO. models. I wish it was just like it is now, same foot print and all only a lock back because then in my opinion it would be perfect. Even being a compression lock which is not my favorite, I still pick it over both the Manix models. Which is why I have two.

Bless you for that site man! Awesome!!!
Glad it helped. It belongs to one of the guys here I think.

My Manix is just the ticket for hunting and camping. The Para is for EDC. They both have their fields of use. Buy both, you will sooner or later.

Go with the Para for EDC. I think it is a nobrainer. The Mini Manix (forget the full sized Manix) has a far larger pocket print. I do not think the comparative photos even do it enough justice.

I wish I were one of you folks that have had good Para experiences. Mine has done nothing but annoy me, mainly because the design is so great, and mine has so many QC issues, even after I sent it in. :(

I'm with you there Bro...it's so close to perfection, if only they'd patch up the bugs.....but, as a user...still magnificent....Sal invited me to send it in, and I might since my Spyderfly definitely has big QC probs and I've been meaning to send it in since the end of summer....but I just don't know if it'll get patched or not, from (I think) your story I read awhile back.

I considered the Manix and Mini-Manix, but they were just too heavy. To me, the Para is the quintessential Spyderco. Full length handle, reasonably sized blade, light weight, and solid lock.
