Maoist kick back

This has to be a stressful time for you and Yandu!
My prayers and thoughts are with you and all the good people at HI.

This pattern of a night time attack on a police station by overwhelming numbers has been repeated again and again. Have they never heard of Claymore mines? And since the government has air superiority, why don't they use it?

The attack was 90 miles east of Katmandu, which indicates there is really no safe place in Nepal at present.

We ought to sponsor a police station and buy them a few claymores and a thousand yards of Kevlar.

I still have the URL to the congress communications and can contact one or all of them and see which one will answer a simple question.
The Stan and Iraq are not the only places that need attention and, pretty darn quick.

What is bothering me is where did the 20 million go we supposedly sent? The police were equipped with ancient .303s while the Maoist have the latest in auto weapons. The cops were simply outgunned and outmanned -- 1000 against 80 or so and the 1000 better equipped.

And, you're right. No place is really safe anymore. And to think 20 years ago I travelled alone all over the country just like I was invisible -- as far as safety goes.

The Maoist attacks continue, with 58 government fatalities in southwest Nepal and reports of several other attacks. Reportedly the Maoists are abducting senior government officials and executing anyone else who surrenders. Check http://www.kantipuronline.com for more news.

I suspect a good part of the $20 million in aid has gone to order 7500 FN rifles from Belgium. The Prime Minister has just returned from Belgium where he was involved with the deal.
