I have recently cut up a nice maple burl that was aged for about 18 months.I want to get the wood stabilized by WSSI. I was curious if is okay to treat with potassium permanganate prior to the stabilizing. Thanks for any advice.

I think You should call WSSI and ask them. I also think they may tell you that Potassium Permangranate is only topical and wont be deep enough. Also doesnt it require heat to activate the color change? They can add dye but only certain colors are available. Give them a call.

Thanks Bruce, I hadn't thought about it just being topical.I'll give WSSI a call and see what they suggest.
