I am looking for a style which either trains in the use of a Kukri or that is easily adapted to it. There is no Bando in my area so it will have to be something else.

I have seen "Escrima" advertised locally, is this any good?

Any suggestions & advice will be appreciated.
Thanks,
PC.

Hi Pc,escrima to the best of my knowledge is close enough to work. Where escrima uses light weapons compared to a khukuri, the basics of movement and angles of attack/block would be about the same, Bando incorperates more drills on drawing and reseathing under difficult conditions, and strikes or blocks specificly for the weight and shape of the khuk.It at least would give you the common understanding of any martial art that involves hand weapons. Just handling and useing the khuk will help you to understand alot of how it should be handeled, it will let you know what it wants.

I am a practioner of kali, what you refered to as escrima. The escrima is a stick used in the art, but there is also a knife fighting part of the style. I have found that with a little practice you can modify the techniques used to make it work. Besides, kali is one of the most fun, and interesting martial arts that I have ever done.

Where the lion's skin will not reach, you must patch it out with the fox's.

Thanks guys, I just called the club & booked myself on their next starter course in January.
I appreciate your advice.

PC: Also, many of my customers practice Bando (under the guidance of of Dr. Gyi). I know very little about martial arts and fighting styles, but I suggest you also check that out too.
