I am a bit in the dark about the research and development aspect of knife companies. I understand that some companies do have their own research & development teams looking into ways of improving the design of knives created for various types of cutting jobs.
Other R&D teams look into the quality of metal used under extreme stress. Perhaps there are such behind-closed-doors developments going on but we seldom hear about it until the product hits the market.
Knife collectors are fickle to a certain extent. Breakthroughs in steel technology is always welcome but when a firm runs out of ideas with regards to their products, customers would inadvertently run out interest pretty soon, too.
But does R&D really feature prominently in the bigger knife companies?
