Had a bit of a bimble with Earl for a few hours on Sunday.
Been in the new gaff for about 7 months now but still not really explored the local woodland that well....there's actually quite a lot of it. And the trip out was pleasantly surprising on that front offering some good potential stealthy spot, some even with fresh water!!
I took a good few snaps so apologies now if you get bored.
These first lot are of the a strip of woodland that runs somewhat brokenly from the back of the house for about a mile.
There were a fair few interesting and striking fellas stood about in these woods....
Earl in awe....
At this point we cut across a field and made our way to a local farmshop/butchers/grocers to pick up some picnic goodies. Then we took a route to the next woodland, just a stones throw away.
It was a surprisingly peaceful woodland, especially for a weekend. We expected it to be full of dog walkers, hikers and cyclists, but there was no one there to disturb our stroll at all. Perfect!
Earl happened across the perfect spot to stop. So without further a do we ate....
Notice the 'walled' stream.
This place is littered with old mills and mill ponds. They were obviously a very important resource back in the day and they were clearly very well maintained. Now many of the mill ponds are for private fishing, but manu of the local water courses are not!
Wonder if there's anything swimming by?
Well, snap over we continued through the woods, again, containing plenty of old characters...
We eventually reached a branch in the path and decided to duck out and head to the other side of the valley, heading past an derelict mill...
Not really much in the way of pond life here...
Heading toward the woods opposite Earl got a little ahead of me and I saw a cracking perspective-trickery shot!!
And some old iron to test the super-macro (and my shaky hands) on....
Carried on past another mill...
Apparantly still occupied...
A rust bucket...
More mills...
