Meerkat, Cricket, or Dragonfly?

I'm looking to get a small "work safe" knife that I can keep in my pocket and will keep me from having to always carry my key ring with me. The top three I've narrowed it down to are the knives mentioned in the title.

All seem to have that non-threatening feel to them and I am wondering, in your experience which of them can deliver as a decent EDC while not raising any eyebrows? I've seen reports on the Kiwi but it is out of my price range.

I'm leaning a little towards the Meerkat but could not find any performance reviews of it here.

Any opinions on these knives would be greatly appreciated.

The MeerKat is a bit thick for in the pocket (unclipped) for office duty. For office carry, I like the SS Cricket or a FRN Fly. Neither garner much attention. Of the two, my favorite is the Cricket although lately, I've been carrying a SS Jester at the office.

I have all 3
Meerkat is heavier & aus6 needs to be sharpened more
cricket is good, I use it as a money clip, blade shape is harder to sharpen & imo limits its uses, vgn10 best steel of the group
frn dragnfly is lightest spyderco made, has best egronamics, aus8 holds edge very well, more useable blade shape, would work best of 3 if its gonna see a lot of use

I have a Meerkat clipped and Dragonfly loose. Both see light duty. I like the Meerkat because I can exert a lot force with it in opening certain types of clamshell packaging. Little more control than a larger folder. Fly works in most other cases. I tried the Meerkat loose, but as mentioned, it's a little heavy in the pocket. It's fine clipped. Agreed about the Meerkat needing sharpening more often.

I'm a big Meerkat supporter. Mine is 440C, for what it's worth. The Meerkat really fits the hand great for a small knife, and cuts like a bigger knife. Great fun to show off to people too.

Keep this in mind though: lots of knife-phobic people don't know the difference between a Meerkat and a Manix anyway. A while ago, someone in my office had a dull pencil, and the pencil sharpener was broken. I offered to sharpen it with my Meerkat. I took it out, openend it up, and began sharpening. The reaction? "Ooh... That's scary..."

I mean, come on, the thing is named after a Meerkat for cryin' out loud...

No need to explain sheeple to me, I am Canadian after all  . I like the Meerkat as well and am strongly leaning towards it. From an edge-ucation point of view I understand how some of you may feel about the AUS 6, but I have a CRKT M16-04Z also in AUS 6 which I can use with ease. Besides this knife will be used for small tasks that won't need much blade wear.

As for the weight, on my own time I carry between a M16, C07, BM 805 and some type of SureFire so the weight of the Meerkat should be a non-issue for me.

All this having been said, I'm also considering the Pride series. I like the option of having something that I can pack for travel and not have to think twice about legally. I fondled one recently and its a lot like the Meerkat IMO.

Its a decent little knife, though the non-lock thing was a little frustrating especially since I like to use my thumb as a spine guide with the saber grip. I suppose the world will be the as it is and its better to familiarize myself with the tools accepted by sheeple and to incorporate them into my life as opposed to being without.

I think some people say things like that not because they are really scared but because they are jack@sses and think they are being clever.

Maybe, but not this time. I guess if I were to try to explain that kind of reaction in any other way but really being scared, I'd assume that some folks just think they're supposed to say that, even if they don't feel it.

Have you thought of the Dodo? If you allready discounted it I like the Cricket.

Cheers,
Rob
