First off, say goodbye to Premium memberships. They will no longer be offered after today due to lack of popularity.

Second - KnifeMaker memberships have gone up to $45 per year. This is in keeping with their access to both the KnifeMaker For Sale areas and standard For Sale areas. We will be offering new KnifeMaker's forums as well now that the software has been upgraded.

Third - We're adding a few new pay-to-play options:
  • Change your custom title: $10. Put a custom description under your username. Your email address in the order form must match the email address in the profile, otherwise you will be charged the "Change someone else's title" rate. Keep the titles PG-13 please.
  • Change someone elses custom title: $20. Think someone's a troll, funny guy, or pain in the ass? Label them as such. Give each other nicknames. The sky is the limit - just keep it PG-13. You won't be able to change the nicknames of mods or admin's, sorry.
  • Change your username: $10. Again, the email address in your order must match the one in your profile or the order will not be processed. Unfortunately, with the onset of people wanting to change their names, we now have to charge for this service. Good thing is that you get to support the forums!

Fourth - Basic Members are now known as Registered Users. A bare bones basic membership may be offered shortly that will give you avatars, signatures, invisible mode, and some other options.

Fifth - Avatars & Signatures will no longer be available to Registered Users. These are enabled for Gold & highers only. Registered Users who already have avatars will be able to retain them for now, however, they will not be able to change them. Registered Users will also no longer be able to operate in invisible mode.

Do I now have to pay something to use the "view new posts" feature ?
When I click on it now , it gives me three reasons that I may not do this, but none of them seem to apply to anything I am trying to do.fuzzy.

See the announcement.

Thanks Spark, I found it. So if I upgrade my membership, the server will no longer be "bogged down " by searches ?

Since basic memberships can't search anymore, and only Golds & such can, the number of searchs at any given time will be greatly reduced. That means the server load is much less. That means that server speed is increased.

Furthermore, by helping the forums pay for themselves, you contribute to their continuing to stay open. You get additional features. And you help pay for additional hardware we may need down the road - something that cost me $20,000 last year out of my pocket. Every little bit counts.

Hey Kevin,

Can you add a little more light to the new knifemakers forums? Just curious.

They will be coming out after our new software upgrade (whenever vB releases it).

I'll post more information then...

Done, upgraded to Gold, Do I receive a notice when it goes into effect ? Thanks again. I have found some great knives and met some good people here at BF.

We're going to try to get memberships done today before we leave for SHOT but typically you'll just see your user group changed when it's upgraded.

Those who order after today will wind up with a slight wait until we get back from SHOT.

Uhh... and if someone's title gets changed, and they don't appreciate it, then what? They have to pay to get it changed back?

That's how it works. Notice it's less money to change it back than it is to change it in the first place.

While we're on the topic can we pay to have immunity from the baastids changing our titles? How much would that cost?

Good question. I'm thinking about a higher level called Platinum Memberships that will allow you to change your own title and have more private messages / bigger attachment quota

I'm still deciding on how I want to handle that.

Spark,

When will you publish the info on membership levels and cost? Not trying to speed up your time frame but I am set to renew my Gold Membership in April and I'm interested to see what options I may have such as an upgrade to platinum.

vB 3 has new subscription features that allow you to run all subscriptions through the forums, instead of the old method where we'd have to manually change your user level. I'm testing this new functionality right now - once it's done I'll be posting info on the site.

Spark, how can we check to see when our current subscription renewel is due? I've missed the last two and would just as soon avoid that.
