I just wanted to throw up my first impressions of this knife. I just received it about an hour ago so I can't really comment on performance to much. But here is what I have observed so far:

OPENING BOX
This was the first knife I received with the new Microtech tubes, VS their old boxes. Pretty cool! There old style hard cases were nice, but the liners frequently cracked and then they looked like crap open. (I know this is all superficial, but hey, I am commenting on full package)

In the tube I found the knife sheathed, the warranty card, the maintenance tips card and much to my surprise, a "Training and Operations" manual. This was new to me, although any Knife Knut would find it unnecessary, its a nice touch none the less.

The Knife
The knife by appearance and feel seems to be a tad larger than my L-UDT, however I am not sure if that’s the case(I will take out my L-UDT and compare and post pictures later tonight) The knife feels great in my hand. Perfect size for an EDC.

The fit and finish is simply outstanding. The UMS features a powerful spring sure to please any gadget seekers. The oversized safety is a welcomed change compared to the tiny safeties found on some older Microtechs and Benchmades like the 3200.

The "Grip tape" styled inserts defiantly gives the user a secure grip. I have heard some complain about this type of material, and its really a personal preference. I myself, like it. I plan on sheath carry so I am not worried about wear on my pockets. For those that are not happy with it can easily have alternative inserts installed from Ray skin or there choice of materials.

CONS
The new Microtechs feature "Tamper Proof" screws to prevent you from disassembly. I don't mind this too much myself b/c if I have any problems its going straight back to the factory, however its nice to have the option to disassemble. BUT WHY THE CLIP SCREWS GUYS????

Overall, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. For the price I paid, I can't think of anything that compares. I would recommend this knife to anyone.

Sa-weet! Looks a tiny big bigger than the LUDT. Is that right?
Let's see the clip side. Is it tip-up or tip-down?

They are Tip up carry, I snapped a couple more quick shots

(Edited to add) By the way, I do not have specs in front of me, however I am saying the UMS is a tad bigger for sure

looks great, but why don't they ever make them with reversible clips!
The tamper proof screws look kind of cool but I always like the option to take apart my knives. I like to take my knives apart once in a while to get it completely clean

Yeah the screw do look cool, but like I said, Why would they use them on the clip?? Oh well, for the price, I can't complain. I plan on getting a few more :)

I TOTALLY agree. If BM can make 4-position holes for clips other manufacturers should follow. I like to have the ability to take apart or adjust too. On the other hand, I have a Delta-Z with similar screws and I made short work of it with one of those O-ring pliars.

P.S. That fuzzy, teethy, creepy thing in your icon just keeps getting closer and closer and closer, doesn't it? Turn it around or something! The damn thing is going to give me nightmares. What the hell IS it anyway?
