Im interested how you make your tachyon. Is it made in a big factory and makes 1000 a day. Or do you and a few buddys try to put as many out by hand? Or do you just make each one by hand? Or what?

edit: sorry for not caping your last name.

Hi LOL :) ...if your question is serious.., I'll give you a short answer and maybe Mr. Turber will kick in "the real deal" if he has time.

Mr. Turber's company "WOWInc."..does not manufacture the Tachyon. Mike has an "exclusive" deal with Microtech (a large manufacturer of knives in Florida).., and they make the Tachyon.., as well as many other non-Balisong knives.

As far as how many can be made in one day.., Microtech is not a huge company like General Motors or something.., and as I mentioned.., makes many other models of knives.

When you used the term "by hand" a couple of times.., I assume you are talking about assembling the components of the knife. And yes.., some of Microtech's employees do assemble the knives by hand. -But-.., the Tachyon is not a "Handmade" knife if you use the lingo we typically use in "Knifeville".

The Tachyon is a high quality production knife with lots of time, computer generated drawings, and very expensive machinery involved in the production of it's components.., which are then..., assembled by Microtech's shop staff.

Hope that helps :)

I also would like to know, it's now been 2 weeks since my order. And I should be getting it soon, I thought when I was told 2 weeks that would be at the latest. My card still has not been charged, so I guess it is obviously not on its way yet.:(

2 weeks? I ordered in June and I still don't have mine. if you just oredered two weeks ago, you can expect to be some distance back on the list, unless I overestimate the demand. I don't think the black-bladed ones have shipped yet. I can't seem to get an answer on that though

are they on a production line like when they first made the model-T or like general motors and its all robot hands? And why wouldnt this be a serious question?:) not sound mean or nothing.

I think that the actual assembly of the pieces of the knife is done by hand. The milling is done by machine but there is most likely someone nearby to run the CNC Mill.

John Hollister over on the Automatic and Emerson Forums had pictures of his tour of the MT factory. The post on this is several months old, and I don't know if the pictures would still come up.

I designed the knife and Microtech makes it. They are a medium size factory (About 25% the $ volume of say Spyderco or 20% of Benchmade).

Here is a link to factory pics.

As you will see in the link above they are fairly small in size but they make up for it in the quality department. In my opinion they make the best factory knives in the world along Chris Reeve.

My geographic location makes them very accessible and I have been doing business with them longer than any other distributor.

When I thought of doing a bali-song the only company that came to mind to make the project a go with my specs was Microtech.

The components to the knives are made all by the most exacting standards and best machinery. Other knife companies envy the machines that Microtech uses. Tony brings the engineering to reality. After the components are built each knife is assembled by hand.

I will be taking a trip there soon and I will take a Tachyon through each manufacturing step :)

Thanks for the info Mike, looking forward to those thachyon-production-process pics:D :D

I lost that link of the MT production area...nice of you to post it!!

Sneak a camera in there and let me see what they have that's new.  :p
