I always liked the finger choil cut out on the older style Military's more than the plain version, so...out came the dremel, There is a little less material to work with on the new Military's but its not enough to make much of a difference. I think that this makes the knife have a better feel and look to it. All I used was the small cut off wheel and about 15min of my time.
Now I really dont care but I do have to ask...does this void my warranty? And is their any plans in the future to add the finger choil cutout to future Military's?

KDarmy, that pic _is_ showing an older Military, isn' t it? Or did I read your post wrong?

Keith, Anything is possible at Spyderco.

We're looking at thumb & Choil serrations very closely these days. the problem in a Tip Down knife with thumb serrations is trying to "not scrape" the hand going into the pocket alongside the knife and still be effective.

The problem with choil serrations is finding the right size and shape to be comfortable without gloves, yet work well with gloves. I wasn't pleased with what we had to I removed them until we could come up with something that serves better.

Nakano,
No this is the new style CPM440V Military that I cut the grooves into the finger choil so that now it has the look and feel of the older style. Guess it came out pretty good if it fooled you huh? It did come out nice, unless you really look close you cant tell it was home made.

Sal:

Another groove-related problem (and Dremel solution) you shoud be aware of, if you are not already, is that the grooves on the thumb hump of the Military can sometimes snag on the edge of the pocket, causing me to fumble the draw. I solved the problem by grinding down the metal just aft of the hump, thereby eliminating the offending grooves.

By the way, I wear Levi Dockers, which have a more or less vertical pocket slit.

Stop when you get to bone.

David,

I had the same problem with the Military. My solution (I think Sal suggested this) was to Dremel a chamfer on the sides of the hump. It really took the "bite" out of those grooves when they no longer had 90-degree corners, and snagging on the draw was eliminated.
