Are there any plans to use the compression lock on the Military?

All things being equal, it would seem that the compression lock has pretty much obsoleted the liner lock.

That would be the perfect upgrade to a classic design. The compression lock would be about the only improvement possible that I can imagine for the Military.

Noooooooo! Noooooooooo!

No compression lock. Far inferior to the liner lock in personal opinion. I have sold or traded almost all in my posession. The military is a classic as it is.

compression inferior to liner? gotta disagree on that 1, why do ya say so pray tell.....?

imho my Ti ATR's lock up as good as anything i have, certainly as good/better than any millie i've ever seen, no handle liners/very thin liner bar has always been a con with millies imho. have had probs with lock up on 1 older millie FWIW.

and nothing against liner locks either, and well designed/ executed liner lock works just fine, but the compression does seem better to me, better than anything except maybe maybe a axis lock, close call on those 2.

would the compresion be good on a millie?? if it could be worked into the design without altering the handle too much i'd say go for it.

I think one of the main ideas behind the design of the Military is that it should be easy to use with gloves on. That's why it has an oversized handle and a large blade hole. Also, since it carries high in the pocket, it's not difficult to draw. The huge cutout in the scale lets you unlock it effortlessly with gloves on too.

Lockbacks generally aren’t too hard to close while wearing gloves, IMO. Trying to work a compression lock when you’re wearing gloves can be somewhat arduous though, at least on the couple of knives that I’ve tried. If you really have to use a knife extensively with gloves on, you can’t beat a fixed-blade, but the Military does a pretty good job for a folder! :)

Sal has always said that a compression lock Military would be an additional model, not a change to the standard Military.

Oh yes, that's going to be excellent.

The Military is a bit bigger than I like really, but I do like to have one on hand just in case.

Any projected release date for the new & improved Military? :D

I have tried every compression lock they have came out with except for the ATR and I just can't get used to it.If it was on the other side of the scale like the Gunting I think I would like it more.

It hasn't been promised AFAIK. But if it were to happen, it would be an additional model, probably Military 2. The way we have the S30V Native and the VG-10 Native III at the same time.

I've only handled a para mili once. I didn't like the lock at all as far as opening and closing. I didn't even attempt to close it one handed, because I was unfamiliar with it, and I didn't want to get bitten at the factory outlet.

The liner lock is fine. I had movement in mine, but tightening the pivot made it feel like a fixed blade again.

A military 2 would have to be so freaking badass to earn that name.

I would be thrilled with a mili two. I really don't like liner locks and would love to see the compression lock like the para I carry everyday.
Mili 2, compression lock, textured handle in coyote brown g10, get crackin' there Mr. Glessar right after the szabofly comes out;-)>

I believe, there are few reasonable arguments to go for a Military:

1. liners locks, although elegant and with smooth action, are not reliable - even almost perfect Mili's lock was reported sometimes to fail.

2. Compression lock is:
a. much stronger
b. much more reliable
c. very easy to clean (much easier than, say, a lockback).

3. Other companies go with modern locks (BM Ritter, etc.).

With compression lock, Milie would be:
- the best light, heavy duty folder with very reliable and strong lock
- very good companion for outdoors activity, combined with a fixed blade knife,
- an excellent utility knife for all possible cutting jobs, in garden, kitchen, ..., hiking, etc.

Keep in mind that many forumites claim they declined from Milie because of damn liner lock!
Me too.

I'd like to see this too, but only if they give you a tip-up option, otherwise I'll have to pass on this one as well.
