I just purchased a new vise that I have secured to my drill press. It can clamp the work in there and then there is two handles I can use to move the work in and out and side to side, 90 degrees to each other.Any tips in using this type of vise for milling purposes would be appreceiated.

I am assuming that milling is done just like drilling metal(Slow)and with plenty of lubrication.I have a good machine shop near me with any thing you could want,so any recomendations for what type of milling bits would help too.

I plan on using this setup for making folding knives. Thanks in advance.

I used to use a drill press for milling soft material, i.e. wood, brass, and nickel silver. However I do not think that I would have been very successful milling steel. The problem with a drill press is that the bearings are designed for vertical pressure, not horizontal. When you start to press sideways, the bearing become overloaded. In any event, make sure that that vise and work are really secure. Wear a face shield. Good luck.
