This piece was done by my friend named Paul Cooper. He is an Apprentice of J.D. Smith. I thought it was a cool and different piece and thought that you guys might like seeing it.
Regards,
Chuck

This sole authorship piece is modeled on the barong, a malaysian tool, but modified with characteristics of a fighting knife. It is lighter than a traditional barong, double edged, points well and has a full belly. The 6 inch blade is forged from 5160 spring steel (leaf steel). The handle and sheath are ebony. The spacer and butt plate are sterling. The overall length is 11.5 inches.

Wow--that is fantastic! The wood carving, the ferrule, the lines of the knife (especially the notch)...

Hope we get to see more from this gent in the future!

I LOVE IT! Sorry for shouting, but that's one of the coolest knives I've seen to date. That level of creativity is rarely reached by most knives I've seen.
What a wonderful piece, thanks Chuck!

i've seen pics of a fw of paul's knives and was very impressed....very cool rendition here....ryan

Thanks for showing us this, Chuck. I have only handled Paul's work--never met him or shot his work. But, the JD Smith influence and his own artistry is killer!

This piece was on Bill Malloy's (Mastersmith's) table last year in NYC:

It shows how talented he is, and how much he likes untraditioinal pieces.

(BTW, the barong above is listed at beautifulblades.com)

Barong? I like it.

Two great looking and very cool blades thanks for posting guys. Would you guys call the second one a dagger or gauche ?

Chuck called it by it's correct name: Poniard (or Poignard). It's a stabby three-sided blade from the Middle Ages.

That is VERY cool. The craftsmanship and design are nothing short of spectacular.

Thanks for posting it.
