I am looking for a less than 3 oz knife to use as a neck knife...
it will see heavier jobs than what it is designed for... (shoot me) but living in brazilian atlantic forest, I don't always carry my "main" knife with me,
and a lot of times I encounter things on the road that needs a pretty good knife... like batoning a 10 inch bamboo for bringing it down for example

I know, these knifes are not designed for it, but I know they can do it.

after a lot of searching, for me it came down to 2 options: the bark river mini northstar in 3V (which will come out this year), and the fallkniven WM1.
I don't like the look and feel of tactical knives or skeletonized knives, so most neck knives are already out of the question.

as far as weight and blade thickness, the WM1 looks better and sturdier to me..
but the blade of the mini northstar is a good half inch longer...

the 3V mini northstar will have only a 0.12 inch thick blade, but 3V is a prety though steel... aiaiaiai, choosing... collecting would be easier...

actually I think the northstar companion is a great workhouse, but it already is 4 oz... a bit heavy for the neck.

any opinions about this?

I love my Mini Northstar in 12c27, and I can't wait to get it in a better steel.

My mini is my most used knife in the outdoors, and it sees a whole lot of kitchen use as well. For me, it slices like a Mora, but it can withstand far harder use than I'd ever consider dishing out on a Mora. I have used my Mini for batonning, and for light trail maintenance. It carves, slices, notches and makes fuzz sticks like a champ. The new version should be just as good, but with a far improved steel.

I have no experience with Fallkniven, other than their phenomenal sharpening stones.
