Can't say anything about the Silva, since I never saw one. I have a Zeiss Mini Quick, which is a similar concept, 5 power, 10 mm, but it does cost about $100. Brunton makes one like it for a lot less, about $40, I think.
I carry my Mini Quick in a nylon knife sheath with a LensPen in there with it. The whole package is very light and accessible and extremely protective of the monocular. I usually drop it in a shirt pocket, but of course it could go on a belt.
I've had the shorter, stubbier, thicker monoculars, including a Nikon which was pretty good, but I prefer the pen style, like the Silva.
