Hey everyone. I just found this site and was hoping someone here could tell me if I can carry a folded police/swatt knife here in minnesota? I have searched the web with just little details here and there. Nothing I cam across really said it was legal, ilegal to carry a knife. Everything I read was pretty m uch talking about guns. Can someone help me?

ok,,,,I make a fixed blade knife and some guys told me that it was against the law to carry it,,,,so I called the east grand forks police and they had no problem with a sheath knife of any size...,,,

However a folder might be a different case, because you carry it inside your pocket and it is hidden,,,I would suggest that you just call the cops,,(Dont call 911, but rather look up the number in the phone book and just talk to someone who knows carry laws)

It was easy to do and they seemed very happy to answer the question...

MN law makes no mention of blade length, fixed or folding, concealed or otherwise. The only thing you can't carry is a switchblade.

Here's our usual reminder that state laws can be superseded by municipal laws: check your city/village/town/hamlet for additional restrictions.

Being a life-long resident of Duluth, MN, and knowing a couple of cops, this is what I understand to be the law:

Folder-nothing over 4 inches in blade length (although I was told most cops won't hassel you for a 4 1/4 blade unless you seem shifty)

Fixed-no blade length limit if NOT concealed...I was told that almost any fixed blade, regardless of size, will raise suspicion if concealed or worn 'in town'

Illegal-double edges, butterfly knives, switchblades

Remember, this all to the best of my knowledge.
