Almost a year ago (last March) I contacted Sid Post about Missions Ti-MPF. Sid was very easy to deal with and we discussed the knife in detail on the phone and in email. When I bought up questions he didn't have the answers for he contacted Mission directly and then relayed the information back to me. I settled on a plain edge version, no false edge, sharpened or otherwise. I sent off a $100 deposit to reserve the blade and Sid quoted me a delivery time of a few weeks.

This is when the problems started. After awhile I dropped Sid an email asking him for an update. He contacted Mission and was again told "a few weeks". This continued for the rest of the year. Every few months I would email Sid, he would contact Mission and the reply would be similar. After a year of this I asked Sid to cancel my order.

Note I have no problem with Sid, he was very easy to contact either by phone or email. He is not making the knives and can obviously only go with what he is told. I also don't have a problem with waiting for a knife. If Mission had quoted me a 1 year delivery time in the first place I would not have a problem with it, however I do not appreciate being strung along like that.

Cliff,
I tried contacting Mission several times about the A2 bladed folder that was reviewed by Dexter Ewing in a past issue of KI. No replies to Emails, No returned phone calls, NOTHING

I also contacted Sid, He was very nice and explained Missions plans for the knife. Again he is only a dealer and cannot help Missions poor P.R.!
After all the BS with Mission, I ordered a SpeedTech! Jim O'Young is a curteous proffesional that knows knives and how to do business!

What else can one say?

As many of you know, I was a very vocal advocate of Mission and their knives. I bit hook line and sinker. I saw what they had to offer at the Atlanta SHOT SHOW last year and knew what they were building. Like many others, I placed my orders and let people know they were in the works. A few people wanted one of these knives as soon as possible so, I took pre-orders. Had I known or reasonably believed that things would have worked out this way, I would have done things much differently. Hind sight is always 20-20.

I have received email from many people regarding Mission knives because their requests went unanswered when they contacted Mission directly. I do what I can to help but, I am only a dealer. I guess this is part of being a dealer....

Stay Sharp,
Sid

I have had possitive dealings with Mission knives myself. I was in the market for an all Titanium folder and emailed them and was replyed to in a timely fasion with alot of information. I ended up not buying the knife from them but had all the information I needed to make an informed decision. That was about a year ago now.

bought a MPS from mission last year.
quick, friendly, professional reponse to several emailed questions; quick delivery once i made up my mind.

maybe it's hit or miss with them but i think your best bet is to deal with them directly via email.

As a further point of information, the negative responses are a more recent thing. This can be attributed in part I think to a move to new facilities and a very large military contract.

As noted by CJ and sdesarno, this seems to be a recent trend which hopefully has been turned around.

I had some questions about their C-T model last fall and emailed them. I received a very prompt and polite reply from Rick and was about to order when a I got sick and other priorities became involved. I never got back to him, for which I do apologize, but he was unfailingly courteous and prompt with me.

Rick, I am sorry that I did not get back to you about the C-T, but , as said above, other priorities have intervened. Thanks for your patience.

Third Hand Info TIFWIW: I was told that Rick is no longer involved in the operations at Mission! I heard that he is working out consulting, programming or something, and that John has pretty much taken the helm. I know they were to have an open house at the new facilities, but I havent heard anymore about that.

Never be a Bank for any Knife maker. If you use a credit card, and they charge the entire amount upfront, you already have a problem. Figure out what it costs to borrow 500 - 1000 dollars for a year from a bank.If you are charged the entire amount up front, then the law says the mechandise must be delivered with in 30 days, or you may dispute the charge and receive back your money. If you must have a certain knife and can not live with out it, go to a purveyor, and pay now, and receive your knife with in a few days.Good business also means taking care of your customers finincial transaction in a fair and timely manner.
