Just finished this one up yesterday. A fellow wanted me to do him up a Rifleman's hawk in the same manner I've been modifying the trail hawks--thinned down/lightened/sharpened beard/convexed edges. I convinced him to go with a 24" handle rather than the stock 19", and one thing about this hawk...it's BIG. Feels real good to swing...very much a hand axe.
I convexed (as usual) both the bit and the beard, smoothed out the hammer poll, and removed the large, thick flange of steel on the top of the head. I gave the top of the head a Franciscan-esque curve up to the upper point of the edge.
Specs.
Weight - 35.7 oz (my personal hawk, pictured, is 20.9 oz)
OAL - 24"
Head length - 8 3/8"
Edge length - 3 3/8"
Beard length - 3 1/2"
I included a shot with one of my standard hawks to show the size of the Rifleman's hawk....it's a hoss!
