Modifying a knife

The other day, I bought a small knife. In my attempt to tighten a screw, I promptly broke it and quickly found out that the screw was one of those made to order and I couldn't get one anywhere from any of the hardware or DIY shops I came across.

So I decided the next best course of action would be to put in another screw which came closest to it.

Well, it fitted though not exactly in its originally. I also made the blade fitted a bit more snugly at its joint. It is now even better than before. I am surprised at my own very limited success.

This is triggered a dangerous thought in my mind: Can I do it with other knives which may be less than satisfactory?

Have you done the same with some of your knives?

I had an original style AFCK which just had the two back screws threaded into the G-10  What a dumb idea. Anyway, I pulled those screws out and installed some small SS nuts and bolts. The machine screws fit flush on one side and I drilled out pockets on the other scale to allow the nuts to be recessed. While I was at it I made some aluminum stand-offs to replace that stupid plastic back-spacer.
Now when you squeeze the knife the scales don't flex

I've also cut thumb-groves into knives and reprofiled handles. I almost always take a dremel or sandpaper to new knives to remove sharp edges left from manufacturing.
