I've wrapped my Bushman with cheap paracord for better grip, and the fact that I just might need the paracord. I toyed with the idea of wrapping the handle in duct tape, but decided against that. I haven't found anything big enough to close the opening in the handle, tips off of canes and crutches were mentioned, but none were big enough. I've been looking around for an alternative, any ideas? This is going to be my new truck knife, and I would like to store some supplies in the handle. Thanks for your ideas.

Find yourself a good seasoned stick that's about the same diameter as the handle opening, whittle it down to fit the taper, leave just a bit sticking out the butt end so you can grab onto it. Whole thing would be maybe...1" long? If it's got a snug fit, that should do it.

The way I store survival "goodies" in the handle is that I place the items in a small zip lock plastic bag......I then roll it up and stick it in the handle....then tape it up (all nice and waterproof).

I actually wrap the handle with fishing line....then copper wire.....then either surgical tape or gaff tape...or paracord.

A hard black rubber "cork" from a lab supply store would be perfect. If you can still find a hardware store with a good cork selection that would work as well. You want something that supplies a bit of friction (like cork or rubber) and is a bit elastic (like cork or rubber) to do a good job of staying put.

I put several layers of the so-called "100 mph tape" (heavy fabric tape, like gaffer's tape, etc.) across the rear opening. However, I like the idea of a rubber lab bottle stopper a lot. I wrapped the handle in paracord. I have some snare wire but it's inside.

I found that Walgren's has some cylindrical lighters that fit in the handle better than the Bic models that have a wider oval cross section. Put the contents in a zip loc, as suggested above. I plugged the front handle opening with a short piece of candle that can be used to help start fires. Had to trim it a bit for a snug fit.

You may want to try a rubber cup like what's on the bottom of a crutch to cap the end. Similar to the Randall crutch tip model 18.

Tried that, too small. BTW, I want something that will go over the handle, not inside it.

The plastic cap, or cork, or stopper (whatever you call that in English) used in some champagne bottles is supped to work well on the rear end of the Bushman. It gives the added benefit of allowing the Bushman to work for light hammering.

I wrap a mini bic lighter in a bunch of tape so that it has a round cross-section. That makes a great plug for my bushman.

I have toyed with this idea for a while now.
There is that seam that runs along the handle , I used duct tape to seal it , so that part was done , then I left it alone... I though maybe to seal the part of handle by the blade , maybe a small rubber stopper and epoxy. As far as the end goes I like both the cane end idea and the champagne stopper.
Have to try that out. I had my handle para-wrapped too but it kept slipping because of the narrowed down part of handle. I thought this might be even more unsafe if it slipped while using it.
just a few thoughts.

have you went to lowes or home depot?
and looked at there caps?

or maybe a automotive heater hose cap

Now I'm gonna stop at the auto parts warehouse. Thanks for the idea! :)

I simply added a 12" extension to the handle, the added reach will (in theory) come in handy if it's ever used in a self defense situation.

I've simply thought about adding another 4 ft to the end, and using it to test questionable brush for snakes.

There are also rubber like caps that fit over the legs of furniture to stop them scratching a wooden floor. They are usually pretty big so may fit quite easily.

My preference would be to leave the end open. Placing gear into the handle removes it's ability to be used with a handle extension for different purposes. It also means that if you happen to lose the blade, you also lose the gear that's in the handle.

Wrap 550 around the handle. It'll give you cordage and then throw a few ranger bands on the handle and you got firestarting material.

Get a large industrial type drum liner and fold it up and place the gear you were going to put into the handle, in the folds of the liner, then attach the liner to the sheath using ranger bands.

I agree with Longbow about leaving the handle free of gear. I picked up friction tape at a local hardware store. Nice and grippy it also seems to keep the knife in the sheath. My bushman seemed to slide out too easy. I wrapped about 20 ft. of para cord along the sheath. I need to make some ranger bands to make sure the cord dont slip.

i had a cone machined out of aluminum that fits into the hole(its not really a full cone just the base of one), and i use a special ring and bolt that i made myself the fits in the hole throught the handle, and throught the aluminum cap. the little half ring that sticks off is what i tied a paracord lanyard to. i also wrapped the handle in paracord, and hope to maybe weld a guard onto the ricasso(using heat stop paste so i dont kill the HT). i also clipped the blades point and added a sawback to it.
