OK. So, its my first day CCW. I have a kydex tuckable IWB from www.fist-inc.com

1) Having a bit of a problem with the fact that the holster is not really supported by my belt. It seems to me that the whole thing might work a little better if it was supported by a belt. Opinions/advice?

2) I'm a skinny guy. I'm being very serious here. I don't think you guys understand. I'm 165, 5'10, and I work out all the time so all that there is to me is muscle, skin, and bone. THAT'S IT. ZERO fat for padding.

Wearing the holster on my right hip is fairly uncomfortable 'cause its right on top of my hip bone. I have NO padding between my hip and the gun. (Except for a few layers of skin) Would this be any better with leather?

I've tried slightly different positions (shifting forward/back an inch or two.) but doesn't seem to help.

3) Where do you guys wear? Front (appendix), hip? Where?

4) Is it possible I'm just having "teething pains"; I just need time to get used to it?

Any other advice appreciated.

Also: Cant or no cant? Seems like it may be more comfortable with a slight cant...

Thanks

1) I clip my holster to my waistband ... for some reason that seems to be more comfortable for me than clipping the belt in too. I'm not sure I understand why....

2) I have the same problem, especially if the pants I'm wearing are a little tight. You might try sticking some suede or moleskin or something to the inside of the holster ... if it's really thin it won't do much, and if it adds much comfort it'll add a lot of bulk, too. You could just wait for your hip bone to conform to the shape of your gun.... I suspect even a very thin layer of padding will help quite a bit, though. My thin suede holster feels much more comfortable than Mexican carry.

I wear it on my hip canted sharply forward. It's reasonably comfortable and very fast that way. You might find appendix carry more comfortable and that's pretty fast too. (That's also a good way to carry a knife, btw.) Or you might feel better with it way back, SOB carry -- but don't carry it across your spine! (I think I already told you that.)

Everybody has to experiment for a while at first. I think it's partly just getting used to it, but mostly that very small adjustments can make a big difference in comfort. Try changing angle and position on your hip in very small increments until you get it just right. You'll have to wear it a lot before you know where just right is. Don't give up.... :)

Wear it around the house where you can fiddle with it without panicking the natives. Walk around with it on, run and jump, bend over....

again, try a good holster, like galco/null/bianchi, and be ready to spend around $150(and up,up,up) on the belt/holster combo, not counting mag carriers/etc.

ya can do it, my wife is 5'3 and 101lbs soaking wet and she carries a SIG P225 9MM EVERYWHERE 24/7, so, w/a good belt/holster combo, ya can do it!! she also uses a gun purse sometimes too, a galco i think it is.......

good luck

I am about your build. I discounted pastic for a holster for EDC for several reasons. First I had one and broke it, second the sweat factor.

I carry either a full-size 1911, Glock 26 or Glock 30. The holster is a Kramer IWB model 1 which has a large flap of leather to assist in a) keeping the firearm well positioned 2) distruibuted the weight evenly. After using a regular belt for a year I moved to a gun belt which makes all the difference in the world.

Also if you want something way cool, there is a holster, belt, magazine system devised by Massad Ayoob and Ted Blocker called the LFI rig. The holster and magazine pouch attach to a belt by using velcro which is on the back of the belt. All my everyday holster systems mentioned above were purchased prior to trying out the LFI rig and when money is available I will switch to the LFI rig.

Main benefits of this rig;
1) nothing shows on the belt i.e. the loops.
2) easy to adjust.
3) good quality and service.

Kevin: the LFI rig: WOW!!!!!!

How much is that??? I NEED one!!!

WHY don't those guys list prices on their site??? :(

Do you know how much the LFI rig is?

Thanks!!

Could you please post a mini-review? How happy are you with it? Anything else I should know? The ONLY Disadvantage seems to be that its not tuckable, which would be nice for me on occasion.

Thanks

All I can say is that you need lots of room for putting both the holster and mag pouch inside your pants. Most people who carry IWB don't carry thier spare mags inside the pants. I purchased pants a couple of sizes larger then normal to compensate for this. Blocker will ask your belt size and make it larger for ensuring the holster and mag pouch fit.

With your build I would not go with the IWB pouch if you have a double stack. They are bulky, if single stack then that's fine.
