I don't know how else to describe them in general. The Poliwog and Dodo have the finger choil shared between the blade and handle, so you get a full size handle and a blade that is small but plenty useful. I guess the Native 3 is close, but it could be better if it were not designed for 2 grip positions. The Scorpius is kind of the same way. You CAN hold it all the way forward, but it is not 100% perfect that way. The Poliwog is.

I would like to see this kind of design available in more models, all lock types, and lower prices, because I think it is a very practical design that should be more commonly used. An FRN lockback Poliwog would be cool. Cheaper, not as heavy, and the clip could be positioned in a more convenient location (tip-down would probably be easier to grab, or just not so close to the end).

Edit:
In addition to lower cost, a lockback might be better because people are still working on accepting and getting used to the ball bearing lock. It would be nice if this type of knife were given a chance on its own, rather than asking people to adopt two new things at once.

I agree. It came to me the other day when I was comparing my UKPK and Calypso Jr. People were asking for a locking UKPK and I thought why not buy a CJ. They are similar but the way the finger choil works on the UKPK is so much better.

The Dodo is great too!

I like choils, but in some models I don't like them.

Sal has mentioned in the past that the average knife buyer does not like choils, mostly just knife nuts.

I love choils. i think they add versitility and comfort to most any knife handle.

It's hard for me to use a knife without a choil.

The Paramillie has an unusual but very good implementation of this.

I might like it even more if there were some kind of light texture on the bottom side of the choil (where your index finger goes).
