I know it's been mentioned before but I had 5 blades done by them and they were very professional. They are great in getting back on questions and relaying information. I got emails when my items arrived, how they were to be done, cost, and when they were shipped out. The cost was quite reasonable and the service was top notch. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have a blade coated. They truely are a joy to deal with even on just a small order that most places wouldn't bother to deal with. Quality was great too, smooth even coating, no spots missed, even in the harder to coat areas.

That said I just have to show off their work.

Did they disassemble and reassemble the knives for you or did you just send the blades?

I took them all apart before sending them in. My "oops" if you will was not sending in the hardware to have done as well. But if I send in anything else and I'm sure sooner or later I will I'll just send in the extra hardware as well.

Mind if I ask "Approx" what it cost to coat each blade..... I have no clue and am curious.

Thanks,

I believe it was $25 for the first blade, and then $2/inch for additional blades. That includes return shipping. It was $78 to have those 5 done. Not sure what if any extra they charge for hardware to be coated.

Yep, I went with the chromium and boron carbide coatings. I figured as long as I was having them coated I mise well get both corrosion resistance and scratch resistance.

Todd

Thanks, Todd. One quick question for you: I love the boron carbide coating (BC1) partly because of the excellent scratch resistance you mentioned, but also because the original blade finish (i.e. satin, high polish, stonewash, etc.) shows through the coating so beautifully. It's almost like a high quality deep gun blueing process, only a million times more durable. So, the question is, does the underlying blade finish also show through when the anti-corrosion chromium layer is added into the mix?

That's a hard one for me to answer since I had Bodycote blast all the blades before coating them I don't have anything but to compare with sorry. You might try emailing Ann Spuller at bodycote she was very helpful with my questions.

I believe it does. I had 2 blades coated, and asked for the Chromium layer. The base finish still showed through.

I sent in the hardware, and they didn't charge extra. They charged $25 for the first knife, and $2/inch for each thereafter.
They did a great job, I will send them more.

im new to this topic and i was wondering who i contact for this service? is there a website? and will they take off your current coating?

Manji,

You can contact Ann Spuller at bodycote her email is:

aspuller@bodycote-na.com

Their webpage is at:

www.bodycote-na.com (though I never found much knife related info there, mostly just coating info).

They will blast (not sure if it's sand or bead) your old coating off no extra charge. My 98' commander I had them do was blackT coated so they had to blast that off before coating it.
