Mosaic damascus bolsters on a user?

My question is, do mosaic damascus bolsters on a folder knife require any special care or maintenance other than the obvious? Are they fairly durable in terms of maintaining their beauty with normal use? As they are in much more contact with sweaty hands than a blade, is this an immediate concern or will routine care prevent problems? Any insight or advise is appreciated. While I know that there is much more suitable material than damascus for bolster material on a daily user, I don't believe that there is anything nicer to look at. I initially just rubbed them down with a Tuff Cloth, but have also used ren Wax on damascus with no problems. Which is better? Something else? Thanks.

I'd say that's the perfect place to use damascus, mosaic or blade matching, especially on a using knife. It doesn't have the wear/care considerations one might experience with a damascus blade, but you still get to look at it. Pattern weld is .

I've had real good results with Renaissance Wax. Other then the scuffs and scratches that all materials are subject to, the only concern would be moister for perspiration or something you cut. If the bolsters are removable, they could always be etched again. If they aren't screw construction they can still be etched if care is taken.

I can't think of a nicer material.

Personally. . .damascus bolsters are awesome for "small gentlemen knives." I have a knife that has damascus bolsters, MOP scales, and a partial high polished/satin finished blade.

Having a damascus blade match the bolsters (or visa versa) is absolutely the coolest thing around ! Something in a dark Nick Smolen carbon damascus and dark mammoth ivory scales. . .

With any knife. . .routine preventive care will ensure that your knife stays in tip~top shape !

I highly recommend "Renaissance Wax." Killer stuff !

I have to agree with what folks have said here.

Wax them and protect from scratches. Been toting a mop and heat colored mosaic damascus bolstered knife by Larry Chew (Eggerling Damascus)on occasions with no problems in an empty pocket.

Thanks for the responses. The knife in question is my new Keith Coleman Banshee. It is pretty much decked out but has been carried everyday since it arrived. Devin Thomas raindrop damascus blade, Eggerling "crossroads of the stars" mosaic bolsters, stag scales and a fully fileworked blade and damascus backspacer. Awesome knife. I will happily post a short first impression and pics and soon as I can get some that at least show some respect to the knife
