I made a propane forge like the one on Don Foggs site but I dont know what fan or how to mount it so that it works good. Right now I am barley holding steel in there with 15 inch tongs without getting burned. Any suggestions?

Well, one thing you can do is use a welders glove...This will give you some protection from the heat...

A small table fan or a box fan salvaged from some equipment is all you need to give you a break from the heat...Position it to blow across the front of your forge...

Thanks running dog. So I can use any small fan just as long as it is positioned to blow across the front of the forge? Can I just make a table that will position it so that I dont have to weld anything? Thanks again.

Yeah, just play with it...The idea is to direct the heat to the side rather than have it coming straight out at you...Just be careful not to disrupt the heat inside the forge or create a cold spot...

If you have that much heat shooting out the ends, it sounds like you're really wasting a lot of heat. Isn't there some sort of refractory fixture set you could get, or make for the opening? Like in my rather crude forge, I have a set of small firebricks designed to cover the opening, each one has a hole through the center through which the blade can be inserted. Each brick has a different size hole for the different blade sizes... Works great, leads to much less waste.

To get the forge hot enough to weld (2300) there is lots of heat coming out the door. I use a small suirrel cage fan and position it to blow across the door. It makes a big difference especially if you have short handled tongs.
