I would really love to get me a BM 31 but don't want to pay the $130 MSRP. Im sure none of us has paid the $170 MSRP for our BM 42 so where do I go to get a decent price on a 31 or is Benchmade the only place to get them right now?

They're not being delivered until mid-Dec. What you're doing when you order from BM is the same as pre-ordering from any of the BM dealers out there, except that BM charges the full MSRP. If you want it by mid-Dec. try 1sks. They've just gotten direct status (plus you'll support this forum), so it's a good chance they will get some of the first batch. If you can wait a little, your other dealers would sell you the Model 31 at what they feel is a reasonable discount. Remember, hot new models tends to warrant not so great discounts. Either way, you'll pay way less than the $130, as even BM allows for discounting in the advertised prices.

My question for the 31.

Can I remove that silly clip? Is that option removable? That clip is ugly.

Yes, I believe that the lowest possible price that an authorized BM distributor can sell the 31 for is $108. BUT, I know for a fact that 1SKS will match prices to a certain degree. So if you find the 31 for sale at $100 somewhere, contact 1SKS, tell them, and you'll get it at that price. That way, it may be take a little more effort but you will be helping to support the forums. 1SKS cannot advertise them for $100 or they risk losing their status as a BM dealer.

I believe the clip is reversable (for LH and RH people) so yes, the clip would be removable, but the base of the clip is recessed into the handle, just look very closely at the pic of the 31 on BMs website.

Here's my question...

Since it's illegal to carry a bali in your pocket in may states, the clip really does almost next to nothing as far as being practical.

For those of us that need to carry in a sheath on our belt, is a sheath going to be offered/included?

(I posed the same question to Sal Glesser about the upcoming spyderbali, but haven't heard back on it)

I thought that carrying a knife clipped in a pocket was equivalent to having it in a sheath, meaning, it isn't concealed if you clip it.

Is that true or did I make it up?

Little help?

Most municipalities would consider a clip to be equivalent to open carry, as you are not hiding the knife. But I've heard the other interpertation: the exposed clip does not adequately indicate the item carried is a knife, and therefore can be considered as concealed carry. Depends on your local laws. For NYC, it's the first for all folders under 4".
