Went down and took a look at the new UDT.

Handled several specimens.

I was impressed by the strong spring and very good lock up of the first one but others had very slight play.

The construction seemed pretty good.

The stonewashed blade looks too similar to a cheap galvanized sheet metal finish.
I know it is not but it REALLY cheapens the look.
IMHO - not to my taste at all.
I much prefer the bead blast finish.

It would be great if MT made this a little bit bigger - (hint -bring back the L-UDT or make a bigger one)

Are they going to change the design / materials any or is it merely going to be a bigger SOCOM?

The new SOCOM Elite is the exact same size blade 4.05" as the current full size SOCOM. The lock and pivot are both much stronger and the handle is more ergonomic. I think the stonewashed finish is very, very nice! It is exactly the same as on Sebenzas. Semi polished but yet mini scratches all over, better than bead blast for corrosion prevention as well and doesn't come off like coatings will.
