I just lost my VICTORINOX multitool so I have to buy a new! I've been very pleased by the Victorinox model but would like to try something new! Any recomandations?
Thanks!

SOG Deluxe Pocket PowerPlier. Why?...Because it's the one that I carry...It's solid.

Going to toss my 2 CSA cents in, SOG Paratool. I've carried it since 1991, it's been through 3 deployments and a bunch of trips besides daily use. It's never even hinted about letting me down.

The Gerber Pro-Scout.

Why?
1) It's just the right size for most multi-tool tasks but not so large and heavy that you don't want to carry.

2) The saw blade can be changed and replaced with any standard jig-saw blade (metal or wood). With other multi-tools, when the saw blade gets dull you're just outta luck.

3) The pliars can be deployed with just a flick of the wrist. This is extemely handy, especially when you only have one free hand.

4) All of the tools lock and unlock with ease. And the lock is the best designed I've seen on any multi-tool.

5) None of the tools clump together when you open them.

Good luck,
Allen.

Amen to that, glockman. The only thing better would be a Deluxe Pocket PowerLock ;) .

Hi,

I carry my LM now for 6months and I can't say anything negative about it.

The handles are "rounded" now, so you don't hurt yourself when you press them.
Every blade can be locked and easiely released.
I think adding two blades, one plain and one with serrations was a great idea - many people don't like serrations.

But if you liked your Victorinox why not taking the same again ?

Greetings Olli

Look at this Leatherman tool comparison chart. You can drag-and-drop up to three models at a time, and on paper, compare other companies' models the same way.

Check out the Leatherman Pulse. It is a relatively small, light, compact multitool, but the only major accessory it doesn't have is a saw. If you don't need that, the Pulse is a good buy.

Sorry about your Swiss Tool.:( For a change I would suggest the Schrade ST5E Tough Tool. This is the only multi-tool I am aware of that has slip-joint pliers.Besides that benefit, the handles will open much wider than your standard multi-tool (thus opening plier jaws wider). The implements are stored in the handles which face towards the user instead of having to rotate the tool or open the handles.
Like every tool, there are some possible issues. There are no scissors on board, and not all of the implements lock.Due to its unique configuration,it can be construed as bulkier than other tools.I've used the Tough Tool many years and am very comfortable with it.:)

I actually tried talking SOG into making a "Deluxe Pocket PowerLock", but my idea fell on deaf ears.:(.

I carry a Swisstool, so I wouldn't recommend getting anything different. The new Leatherman Super Tool looks pretty nice too, and they have great warranty service.

I've tried most of the major brands over the last 15+ years except Vic and the best is the LM Wave. Comfortable, light but heavy duty, all the necessary implements, and 4 locking one hand opening blades. No BS warranty. Shop around and you can get it for $55, or all day long at wallyworld for $65. None of the others (except my original LM) were worth trying again, but if I lost this one I'd try a Swiss X.

My EDC for nearly 3 years is the Kershaw multitool. Good mix of tools including a short hacksaw, but the main reason I got it is for the locking pliers. They were the 1st out with those I believe. This makes the tool much more usefull when you have to tighten nuts or do more serious chores. You can also clamp a hook in the jaws, stick the blade in a stump & use it to tie flys out in the field :) My Leatherman broke a jaw when I torqued it sideways to bend a piece of stout wire. Hit me between the eyes, but had good sunglasses on . No more of those fer me..
