Bob I think you need more oil and a bigger pot. I bet the olive oil is expensive in large quantities. I have used it before but it went punky and smelled real bad. Now I use Texico light hydraulic oil and can keep changing it from a 5 gallon can when it gets too hot. I still miss the olive oil. When it is fresh, it smells like Im baking cookies in the shop. Bob, set your quench pot in a bucket of cold water, bigger tank would work better when you up production.

I use cheap veggie oil, somebody posted her a while back they had a deal with sombody in a restaraunt for used oil (free) smell like french fries when you quench.

How about Goddard's goop?

I was unaware of what he used or why, but I just bought his books/video and it seems like a pretty interesting idea.

Hey Bruce, it's neat to see your name in his book

Actually I have used Goddard's goop, it works well. The veggie oil works about as well. I put a can of crisco in to keep it from weeping out from under the lid.

My quench tank has a old water heater element in it to warm the oil. I just put a 110 cord on it and plug in in until it reaches 120 140 deg.
