I went to a local antique store and found a vic recruit for 4 bucks and a hatchet for five. I'm pretty sure the hatchet is a true value brand hatchet, it says "Master Mechanic" on the head, I've sanded the handle and the head down, and put a couple coats of flaxseed oil on the handle.......

Yup, thats a Tru Value, They make pretty good stuff. At least they did back then, I am sure that now, it would be Chinese. That said, There is a bit of good steel coming from China too. The Chinese Bucks come to mind.
